i will take the pieces put them back together even when the grass isn't green enough."oliver." she whispered, struggling to keep her voice from shaking. she must be strong, and calm. cool, and collected. he needs that from her. he himself was shaking, seated at the end of his bed. she swallowed and wrapped an arm around him, pulling him into her. he laid his head on her shoulder and then pulled away, realizing what was happening.
"maia." he said, his own voice quiet and stern. he was forcing himself to sound so, he couldn't let her comfort him. "just go, please."
she swallowed and flinched slightly at his words, taken back by his refusal of her affection. "i'm not going to leave you."
"maia, please just go all right? i don't want you to see me like this, i can't handle you seeing me as a mo-"
"a monster?" she cut him off with a scoff, growing angry at the thought. "you are my best friend, oliver. nothing will change that. you're not a monster." she bit her bottom lip, tears welling in her eyes.
"i can't lose you." he looked over at her, meeting her eyes. she shook her head and smiled, starting to cry silently. she grabbed his hand and gently squeezed it.
"you're not going to lose me," she swallowed, gazing into his eyes. he nodded. "it'll be okay." she spoke in a soothing tone, he ran his thumb over her knuckles and looked down at their intertwined hands. he wasn't sure of much, but he knew she meant what she said.
