Karen turned on the radio to the country station and turned the volume down so they could talk, but loud enough to hear the lyrics. Jimi's arm laid on the arm rest in the middle of them. Karen grabbed his hand and put hers in his. Jimi pulled both hands up and kissed hers. Karen felt the butterflies. She knew she loved this man and nothing was going to change that.
A few minutes passed and they were at the restaurant. They both hopped out and found the others sitting in the corner at the back. There were only two chairs left, but not beside each other, so Karen sat beside Kimberly, and Jimi beside Phillip; Leaving Karen and Jimi across from each other. At least they could play footsies.
The waitress got the orders and went to put them into the computer.
Kimberly whispered something in Karen's ear and then smiled. Karen just looked at Jimi then started a conversation with the perky blond.
Phillip engaged Jimi in his and Kimberly's boyfriend's conversation.
Soon enough, their food was out and the conversations muted while they ate their food, which lasted about 30 minutes.
"Well that was delicious." Phillip said and leaned back in his chair.
Everybody else nodded their heads in agreement.
"Well I'm going back to my room to take a bubble bath."
"TMI Kim, TMI." Phillip said.
"Can I join you?" Her boyfriend asked.
"Okay, I'm leaving. I'd rather not listen to this." Phillip laughed. "Come on Rebecca."
"Phillip, you're forgetting that we brought them here."
Everybody laughed.
"Okay, but if I hear anymore, I'm kicking you out."
"Deal." Kimberly said and laughed.
"Y'all good?" Phillip asked.
"We're fine. Go have fun." Jimi winked and Karen hit him.
"Don't encourage them."
Jimi laughed and the rest of them left.
It was going on 5 and the sun was still up.
"You wanna go do something instead of going back to the rooms?" Jimi asked Karen.
"That sounds good to me. What do you wanna do?"
"Wanna walk downtown? I hear there's lots of stores." He knew stores were Karen's weakness. Everywhere they went, the girls had to buy at least one thing.
"You know me too well." She smiled.
They got up and headed for downtown where they walked around and Karen ended up getting a few things.
"You didn't have to get this for me. I could've got it."
"When I was with you? No. The man pays for the stuff. The woman picks out the stuff. You see how this works?"
Karen laughed and put her head on his shoulder. She never felt more relaxed or happy.
They walked to an empty side of downtown where there weren't stores or anything really. Just a rail that ran along the sidewalk. It was open acres of land. It was almost secluded and private.
Jimi wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her close to him.
"It's beautiful isn't it?" Karen asked, looking out to the sunset.
"Um huh." Jimi replied, not even looking at the sunset. He was too busy admiring how much the sunset made her look even more beautiful as if that was possible.
"You're not even looking at it." She hit him and laughed.
"I don't need to see it to know it's beautiful. All sunsets are beautiful but the way it's hitting you right now makes you look even more beautiful. I didn't know that was possible."
Karen blushed. "You seriously know how to put butterflies in a girls stomach. Don't you?"
He grabbed her waist with both arms and pulled her closer so that they were face to face.
"I just know what to say to my girl."
Karen smiled so big her mouth started to hurt but she didn't care.
"Jimi Westbrook, I love you so much."
"Karen Fairchild, I love you more than you know." He moved his head down to kiss her and Karen dropped her bags on the ground and rubbed her hands through his hair.
It felt like no time had passed. Like they hadn't lost their baby, like Jimi never cheated, like they were together all along.
Karen rested her forehead on his. "I love you so much but I don't know if I can--"
Jimi interrupted her. "Karen, it's okay. We'll wait. I don't want to rush you. Let's just go back to the hotel and hang out or something."
Karen nodded her head in agreement and they headed back for the hotel. She almost felt bad for making Jimi wait. He said he'd wait, but what if he gets tired of waiting? Would he go find another girl where he didn't have to wait? No. She couldn't think like that. Not again. She loved him and he loved her. That was all that mattered.
