Nana's Ramen
The night was young and the sky was filled with twinkling stars. When I looked at my watch to check the time, it was six.
Jungkook returned to his car just a few minutes ago since he told me he forgot to check something, so I sat alone on one of the vacant wooden chairs. He took me to a small stall where they sell ramen - just the usual tiny stores you can see near the streets on a daily basis. There was a table, a few sets of chairs and that's it. Before the wooden table is the cooking counter - really tiny, yes, but I couldn't help but feel comfortable. The store had a homey feeling I couldn't describe.
"Do you happen to be Jungkook's girlfriend?" A woman looking at his early fifties wearing an apron asked me, smiling brightly. "You're very lucky! That boy is so sweet."
A faint blush dusted my cheeks but I quickly shook my head, "Oh no, I'm not his girlfriend. Just an acquaintance." I politely replied as I felt my face heating up.
"Is that so? Such a shame," she sighed. "He's been telling me a lot about his girlfriend. I was looking forward to meet her. And since you're the first girl he took here, I thought you're..."
"He and my cousin are together, but we're good friends," I admitted, pressing my lips together tightly.
"Cousin? Oh, then tell him to take her here! I'd love to meet her!" The woman clasped her hands in delight. "Jungkook has been our customer for a few years now and he's great boy. I'll be happy to meet the girl of his dreams."
I could only let a fake smile grace my lips.
Fortunately, she went back to cooking along with her husband (who I assume the man beside her was) and decided to stop the conversation there. I love how sweet and lovely she sounded and I wished we talked more, but I couldn't keep up with the topic. Anything regarding Jungkook's relationship with Eunhye shuts me up and this one was no exception.
"Is the food ready?" I heard Jungkook from behind. He pulled one of the chairs beside me and sat quietly, a small smile lingering in his lips.
"Almost, Jungkook!" The man replied. "You haven't visited for a few weeks, Nana missed you."
Jungkook chuckled as he rubbed his neck. "Yeah, sorry about that. I've been busy with school..."
"That's okay," The woman - Nana, if I heard correctly - replied with the same jubilant smile she showed me earlier. "How's your workshop going?"
At this point, I caught Jungkook glancing at me hesitantly before he responded to Nana's question. "It's going great. The coaches are hard to please but they're all usually impressed when I'm the one performing."
And there goes his conceitedness.
"Is that so? I'm sure your parents are proud of you." Nana seemed to believe him as she served us two big bowls. "Enjoy your meal!"
I reached for my chopsticks and stirred the noodles in silence. Jungkook seems to be in a better mood. I was worried he was mad at me again. I know for a fact that Eunhye is being quite selfish; when she can just give her boyfriend some time to think. Jungkook cleared up that he just needs some space. He said he wants to be free for a while. He didn't break up with her. Still, I can understand my cousin's side, too. She acknowledged her mistake and she just wants to patch up their relationship by making efforts of buying him gifts - things he deserved.
