Monday I raced around school and had at least ten pages of notes. After school I was going home to relax and I couldn't wait. He was waiting for me outside most classes and I noticed Daxton sporting a nice black eye and split lip. I was on my way to lunch when Daxton pulled me to the side.
"Can we talk?" he asked.
"For a minute then I'm busy," I replied impatiently.
"Can we get back together?"
"Nope. You're mother told me to do what's best and not being with you is. I have a feeling I'd only get hurt in the end. You also don't know much about me and I don't plan to tell you. That right there means a toxic relationship. It's best for you if I don't get involved."
"Please?"
"No." I began to walk away but his hand clamped down on my arm. I tried pulling my arm away hard but his grip was too strong. In fact his grip was bruising. "Let go."
"Give me another chance."
"No now let go."
"No." He was getting angry. It was a look I knew well. I did the only thing I didn't particularly want to do. I kicked him in the crotch and watched as he released my arm. I apologized quietly before quickly walking away.
Landon was waiting at the cafeteria doors for me with his tray gripped tightly in his hands. His jaw was set in a grim expression and his eyes were narrowed. I followed his line of sight and saw Daxton lying on the ground and groaning.
"Next time make sure he can't have children," Landon said tightly while we walked inside the bustling cafeteria. I chuckled lightly and stole his cookies.
"I thought he was your best friend?" I asked as we sat down at a table with Iliana.
"And then he put his hands on you after cheating on you. You don't put your hands on a woman ever," he grumbled before stealing the only piece of cookie left. I had quickly devoured almost all of it and pouted when he popped the last bit in his mouth.
"You stole my cookie!" I whined.
"It was mine in the first place."
"I don't see your name on it."
"Do I seriously have to label my food?"
"Well it would help even though I can easily pull the label off," I said with a tone implying his stupidity. His mouth opened and closed like a fish and I chuckled.
"You two are acting like you are back in kindergarten!" Iliana exclaimed as she slapped her hand on the table. I grinned as she howled in pain.
"Idiot!" I said with a laugh in her direction. She flipped me off and disappeared with her tray. With a shake of my head and a laugh I turned to Landon.
