"First day of summer! Wake up!" Landon yelled beside my ear. I fell out of our bed and onto the floor. He peered over the side in his glasses and smirked at the heap of my body tangled in blankets on the floor. I glared at him and struggled to get up before looking at the time.

"Eight o'clock?" I exclaimed. I picked up a pillow and began hitting him with it. He grabbed one of his own and began whacking me back. I laughed as I climbed back onto the bed and threw his pillow away. He grabbed my waist and pulled me down to the mattress and kissed me.

"Go get ready. I'm taking you out to breakfast." He poked my shoulder until I got up and went to the bathroom to get ready.

After my shower I got dressed in black shorts and a white tank top with black buttons down the center of the bust with back detailing on either side, and black straps. I grabbed a pair of blue t-strap sandals and slid them on before throwing on sunglasses and grabbing my wallet. I stuffed the wallet in my back pocket and waited for Landon at the door.

My mouth fell open in shock when he came up beside me and pulled the wallet out of my pocket. He chuckled and threw the wallet down the hall before placing his arm over my shoulders and leading me out the door.

"Why'd you do that?" I asked as we walked down the stairwell.

"So you couldn't try to pay again," he answered. "Walking or driving?"

"How far of a walk?"

"Fifteen minutes."

"Race you down the stairs," I yelled with a grin before taking off. He yelled at me for cheating as we raced down the stairs together. I beat him by two steps and when he caught up he threw me over his shoulder and carried me outside into the bright summer sun.

"Want to go to the beach later?" he asked as he put me down and began walking.

"Will I have to be in a swimsuit?" I asked playfully.

"So I have to beat all the guys off you with a stick? No thanks." He smiled down at me as we walked along side by side, not touching but still close.

"Maybe you just don't want to look at my scars," I teased. He frowned at me before realizing I was smiling and nudged me with his hip. I stumbled slightly to the left and when he began walking faster I ran and jumped on his back. My legs wrapped around his waist and my arms were draped around his shoulders.

"Do I look like your slave?" he asked as he put his arms under my knees to help support my weight. I pretended to think about it before nodding my head. A small pinch was placed on my calf and I could almost hear his eyes rolling behind his glasses.

Nearly ten minutes later we stopped outside a diner and I dropped down from his back. He held the door open for me and then group behind him before following me to a table. I picked a white booth in the front corner with windows behind his seat and beside the table.

"Hello. My name is Paige. What can I get you to drink today?" a tall redhead in a pale blue uniform asked.

"Um, I'll have iced tea please," I answered. Landon poked my shin with his foot and I glared at him before putting my feet up in his lap. Paige wrote down my drink before turning to Landon.

"Same as her please," he said with a nod towards me. She nodded, wrote it down and walked away. He looked at me with a glare. "Why are your feet in my lap?"

"You looked lonely?" I tried to hide my smile as he scoffed and batted my feet down.

"You are such a handful sometimes." He sighed and winked at me as our drinks were set in front of us.

"What's that?" I asked pointing to a random place in the restaurant. He looked and while his head was turned I swiped the two lemon slices from the edge of his glass and threw them into mine with my lemon slices.

"You stole my lemon," he accused as he turned back around.

"Maybe," I replied before looking through the menu.

"What can I get you to eat?" Paige asked.

"I'll have a cinnamon roll with whip cream on the side, please." I handed her my menu while Landon stuck his tongue out at me. With a roll of my eyes I copied him before kicking his leg.

"Two chocolate chip muffins and a cinnamon roll with whip cream on the side." He handed her his menu. "Thank you."

As she walked away we finished our drinks and I pulled the now crushed lemon slices out of my glass and sucked the last of the juice from them. He glared at me and crossed his arms across his chest with a frown.

"Little thief," he muttered. I shot him a cheeky grin and placed the lemon slices on a napkin.

"Don't be a baby."

"You are so getting dunked in the water."

"What if I told you I don't want to go to the beach anymore?" I asked with a raised eyebrow. He leaned forward with his arms crossed on the table.

"What do you want to do then?" He watched me carefully. I looked away from his intense stare and out the window. "You know I don't care about the scars and nobody else will either."

"Stop reading my mind," I hissed in mock annoyance. The corner of his lips lifted slightly before he fixed me with his gaze again.

"Twenty minutes and if you don't like it I promise we can leave," he bargained. I tapped a finger against my chin before sighing.

"Twenty minutes and we can leave?"

"I promise."

"What do I have to lose?" I answered with a slight sigh. Paige set the food in front of us and we began eating while I internalized all the things that could possibly go wrong at the beach. I was doing this for him though so it wouldn't be too bad, at least I hoped it wouldn't.
