For years, I had had this strange reoccurring dream.  It started as a very vivid dream in my childhood, but as I got older, the dreams became murkier and began to fade.

The dream would begin with me standing alone in the training room under one lit lamp.  My entire body was coursing with some strange energy.

"Leave them behind, Ava," a voice would say.  A shadowed figure would emerge, stepping just outside the light's reach.  "You know you're stronger than they are.  You have the potential to do such great things.  Everything you've ever wanted-- money, power, fame-- you can have it all.  Join me.  Join us."

"They're my friends,"  I whispered.  "I can't leave them."

"They don't care about you," the voice snickered.  "They fear you.  They fear your abilities."

"No," I shook my head.  "No, you're lying."

"The choice is yours, Ava.  Join us, and the possibilities are endless.  Join them, and I'll make sure your death is long and painful."

I felt a hot tear roll down my face.  "My decision is final.  I stand by my friends, no matter what."

"Such a shame," the voice sighed.  "I thought you were different.  What a waste, throwing away all that potential.  Goodbye, Ava."

Before I could process what was happening, I was engulfed in flames.  My screams echoed through the training center, intertwined with malicious laughter.

Then, I would finally wake up.
