Twins Next Door

Chapter 3

Mia woke up to the sound of her alarm. She dismissed the alarm and dragged herself out of bed. She got in the shower and cleaned herself. She got dressed into black skinny jeans, a blue shirt and blue pumps. She brushed her teeth after eating breakfast. Grabbing her bag, she walked outside to meet the twins. Ethan was wearing a blue hoodie and brown jeans with his black backpack on his shoulders. Grayson was wearing a grey shirt with blue jeans and brown shoes with his red backpack on his shoulders. They walked to school and spoke about random things.

They walked to their lockers and took out the books they needed. They all walked to their lesson together; Physical Education. They walked to the changing room and got changed into something suitable for the lesson. The girls were doing soccer while the boys were doing basketball. They walked out onto the field and went different ways. Mia played a whole match, but she was shoved to the ground by a few girls while playing.

After that lesson, they got changed and walked to their next lesson. They all had the same lesson together; Geography. They entered the room and sat in their usual spot: the back of the room with Mia in between the twins. They listened to the teacher talk about how a hurricane is formed and they were using Hurricane Katrina as an example. The day went by really fast. Before they knew it, they were waiting for the bell to ring for lunch. They made their way to the cafeteria to eat lunch. They walked with their tray of food and sat at a table alone.

"So, are you enjoying school so far?" Ethan asked. They were sitting in the corner of the cafeteria. The room was full of students eating, laughing, yelling. Some were just trying to avoid everyone else. There were girls giggling in the background as the boys from the football team entered the cafeteria.

"It's great, I guess," Mia replied with a smile. "I'm enjoying most lessons. And I made friends before I even started the school! It's a lot better than any other day of school I've ever had. I'm usually hiding from everyone, scared to make eye contact with anyone. I think I might actually enjoy it here. Besides the comments I was receiving yesterday, it's been amazing!" They smiled at her response.

They spoke more until the bell rang. Ethan walked to Science while Grayson and Mia walked to Art. Grayson and Mia decided to sit near the window in the room. They sat next to each other, obviously. All the students were talking, until the door opened. The teacher entered the room and the room fell silent. After the teacher spoke to the class, everyone began to draw and some were just talking. The lesson was disturbed by the bell ringing. Everyone packed up and left the room.

Grayson and Mia walked to their next lesson. Unfortunately, Mia wasn't with any of the twins. She had a reading lesson in the library. Grayson had maths and Ethan had I.T. Mia was reading for what felt like forever. As she was reading, she could hear people whispering about her and the twins. They were saying rude comments and were telling each other jokes about Mia and the twins. She tried to ignore them and read, but it was like they were shouting it. Their words were replaying in her head as she read her book. She couldn't wait to leave the school to finish the Science Project. Eventually, the bell rang. Mia grabbed her things and ran to her locker. She was getting her things when she heard someone talking to Ethan and Grayson.

She turned to see Ethan and Grayson walking down the corridor with a huge crowd talking to them. She could only make out a few things that were being said. She heard things like, "Ethan, can we get a photo?" or "Grayson, can you spell for us?" or "Smile, you're on camera!" Her locker was suddenly slammed shut. She was face to face with a group of people. Their leader pinned her to the locker.

"Awe, where's your boyfriend now?! He should be here to cheer you up, because that's what good boyfriends do!" The leader said in her face. She looked at them in confusion. The followers were snickering at her. She could still hear everyone else in the background. They were still saying things at the twins. She could hear the sound of photos being taken and people giggling at the twins as they walked down the corridor.

"I'm sorry, but... I don't have a boyfriend," Mia said.

The leader, Ben, laughed. "Sure ya don't! I don't blame ya. I don't think any girl would want to be known as his girlfriend. I mean, who would date an ugly dyslexic freak?! Look at him over there, getting all the attention. He spends more time on his own than with his own girlfriend! No girl should be treated like that! He loves the attention. He's an attention seeking whore! I won't blame you if you dumped that fat-ass!"

"Excuse me, but I'm not dating him! He isn't ugly or fat or a dyslexic freak! He's the best friend I could ask for! And I don't blame you if you're jealous! One day, you'll see all the girls swarming him! All the girls will be head over heals for him, and his brother! Because they are amazing guys who care about others! You can bully them all you want, but you'll regret it! They will become the men you will never be! And I'm lucky to have them as my friends!"

Anger burned in their eyes. Mia was thrown into the lockers. He leaned in and whispered in her ear, "You'll regret ever saying that!" His words were full of poison. She then heard footsteps run towards her, followed by familiar voices.

"Can we help you?" Grayson asked. Mia was released and she dropped to the floor. She stood up and faced everyone. The leader walked up to Grayson. He was very intimidating, but Grayson wasn't flinching. He stood still and eyed the leader.

"Don't talk to me, dyslexic freak!" Grayson was then thrown to the ground. Ethan was about to attack the leader, but Mia stopped him. "All of you don't have the right to speak to me! Or look at me! If you are ever in my way again, I will hurt you!" He warned. He then left, his group of friends following behind him. Ethan and Mia helped Grayson up.

They began to walk out the school towards their home. "Hey, um... do people always take pictures of you without your permission?" Mia asked as they were walking. The twins looked at each other then at Mia.

"Yeah, they mock us because we do vines. We're actually quite popular with our vines... but they make fun of us. It wasn't like that when we first started vine. When we had a few followers, everything was alright. But then a famous viner revined us and then we made it to the popular page. That's when everyone started mocking us. We don't know why," Grayson explained.

"Why don't you tell someone?" Mia asked. "Tell a teacher or something! You can't go on like this! This needs to stop! You can't possible let them do this! You need to tell someone! You don't deserve to be treated this way! Someone needs to stop them!" The twins looked at her with sadness across their faces.

"We'd love to stop them, but no one listens to us!" Ethan explained. "We've told our parents, told the teachers, told others... nothing has happened. It's not going to stop. My teacher has actually insulted me and got the whole class to laugh at me. We've just got to learn to live with it. One day, it's going to blow over."

"That's what I kept telling myself! And look at what happened to me! I tried to kill myself! People kept pushing me, calling me names, bullying me. They pushed me past my breaking point. I couldn't live with it! I tried to end my life, but I failed at that like I fail at everything else! I thought that it would all blow over, that the bullying would eventually stop, but it didn't. I have moved more times than I'd like! But where ever I go, the bullying will never go away! You need to do something!"

They finally arrived home. This time, Mia told her parents she would be next door. She followed the twins to Grayson's room and they began the project. They were working on the project none stop. Ethan was watching them while on his phone. Eventually, Mia had to go home.

She ate dinner with her family, washed the dishes and went to her room. She got into her pyjamas and started her homework. She finished her homework at 9pm. She climbed into bed and set her alarm. She replayed today in her head. Why did they bully the twins? They've done nothing wrong! Or have they? Are they telling her the truth?

Grayson lay in bed looking at the ceiling. He thought about everything that had happened today. He looked at his project that was on his desk. A smile spread across his face as he thought about Mia. They have only known each other for three days, but he feels like he's known her his whole life. He closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep.

Ethan was trying to sleep, but Grayson's snoring was keeping him awake. He huffed as he climbed out of bed. He left his room and walked to Grayson's room. He looked at Grayson; he was wrapped up in his blankets snoring his balls off! Ethan closed the door and walked back to his room. He closed his door and jumped into bed. Literally. He wrapped himself in his blankets and fell asleep.
