" I thought I said no friends over today!" dad called as he walked in. I rushed down the stairwell. " shhh dad! I just got Finn to sleep!" I snapped. His expression softened as he picked Finns overnight bag up off the floor. He always stayed over if he was sick, because Terrance and his mom didn't know the first thing about treating a sick kid. I worked as a nurse at the nursing home in town and I cover shifts at the clinic because the doctor knows me. Dad loves Finn and the boys like they were his own kids.
" sorry. What does he have this time?"
"Mono. He thinks he got it from his girlfriend." I winked as dad chuckled. " ok. He's staying in your room?" I nodded. He motioned me into the kitchen.
" ok, here's the deal." dad began.
" uh oh, your fidgeting. Should I sit down for this?" he nodded. And I pulled out a bar stool at the island. " you know how we have so much room, right?" I nodded immediately. We had three stories to our house not including the attic( my space) and the basement. When you walked in the house split, the first floor being down the staircase and being the kitchen, living room, dining room, and entertainment area, the second and third floor each having 4 sets of bedrooms with bathrooms to match. The basement was dads lair with the library and the master bedroom and his study. The attic was completely open except for my bathroom which is closed off. There was two windows, one a huge bay window and the other a window seat that was set so deep I could use it as a bed if I would like.
" I've taken on 4 exchange students from your mothers homeland." he bouts suddenly. I groaned. " why didn't you tell me before!?"
" it was... Uh, kind of.... Short notice. I found out yesterday. " I gave him a confused look. "what???" he sighed, running his hands over his pressed pants. "There are something's you need to know about your mom, sweetie. You see, where she came from, she was a bit of a princess. Next in line for the throne; if I remember correctly. When she died, that honor became yours. The queen and king have recently died, so you're ruling now. " I shook my head. He'd spun many tales on me before. This was just another one of them. Right?
" funny, dad. Now what's really going on?" he sat across from me on a bar stool. " this is real, Tanesha. I promise. The four who are coming are part of the court. Ones supposed to be the next king, one is supposed to be your lady in waiting, one is supposed to be your body guard, and I'm not sure about the other." one word stuck out.
"king!? Wait, what!?" he grinned. " the one who will be ruling with you. They went to school today and them and their things should be arriving shortly." I snorted. " Good one, dad. But cut the crap." he sighed, loosing patience and running his hands through his hair. " I'm not messing with you, Ten! I promise!" I just rolled my eyes, going to the cabinet and grabbing a bag of Oreos. " Whatever. Call me when the 'royal escort' gets here."
"Please don't be this rude when they get here." he pleaded. I signed. "I'll play along until I'm bored. Deal?" dad groaned, but nodded.
