The cool morning air bit at my skin like a wolf with fangs of ice. I exhaled and my breathe noticeably created a heavy fog that I couldn't see through. I was waiting at the entrance to the shopping center for Coby. I had been friends with him for years and we had never had anyone else but each other.
Coby and I were both orphans who's parents had died when we were young. Raised at our towns orphanage for our entire lives and now, we were in our final year of university and about to graduate and go our separate ways.
When Coby arrived, the early day had turned to mid morning and the frost from the air had left. Coby was dressed in a plain black v-neck T shirt and jeans. His brown hair fell to his green and gold eyes and he had to constantly adjust it, so he wouldn't be annoyed.
"Yo, what's up blondie?!"
He greeted me, as usual with an insult, an idiotic smile and wave.
"I may be blonde but at least I have more brain cells than you!"
We both laughed at each other and our stupidity. When we reached each other we gave a quick high five and punched each other in the shoulder.
"Where do you want to head to?"
"Well seeing as you decided to make fun of my hair, maybe a hairdresser to cut yours off."
He backed away quickly and mockingly covered his hair.
"But it's my life, it can't go!"
We both laughed like idiots as we headed inside. We just loitered around for a while and then, the first spell came on. A sudden rush of pain, like an intense headache, came over me and I fell to my knees. My vision turned black and images were racing past in my mind.
I quickly realized they were all memories of mine, the only difference being that these memories were supposed to have Coby in them, but they didn't. My vision returned and I saw Coby over me shaking me with a worried expression on his face.
"Dude are you alright?!"
I sat up and realized I was on the floor.
"Yeah man, I'm fine. What happened?"
"You just collapsed! You're lucky, there was no major damage as far as I can see. But then again, a thick headed idiot like you, why was I even worried. Let's get you up."
He heaved me up and we both laughed at some lame insults we threw at each other.
"C'mon, I'm hungry. Let's go get some food."
"You shouldn't be hungry, all you did was take a nap on the floor all day."
"Hahaha whatever you idiot."
We both wandered over to the food court where we both ordered some fries and burgers. The time passed from 11 to 1 and we began horsing around.
"Ok, so what would you rather. Lose your hair or the wifi?"
"Wifi, not even a contest."
"But dude hair will grow back!"
"I know but I'd look stupid waiting for it to, and besides you know all the girls love my hair. They constantly say it's the best!"
While we were laughing a pair of jocks from our school turned up, one that had black hair and one with brown hair. They threw themselves down on the two chairs next to each of us and hoisted their legs on to the table.
The black haired one opened up. "Well looky what I found. Two losers."
"Haha I thought you two had gotten kicked out of university already, unlike us you don't got the muscle to carry you through and from what I hear you don't have the brains either. Haha"
Rage flared up inside of me. At school I wouldn't have cared, being bullied was a part of going to school. But since they took the time from their lives to come mock us I was gonna show them what it feels like to have a black eye.
I began to rise in my seat when Coby kicked me from under the table and mouthed the words 'let me handle this'.
"So you two think it's fun to mock us right? You think it makes you better than us?"
Coby stood up and got behind the black haired jock.
"I'm gonna show you what it's like to be on the end of a beating for once."
And with that he slammed his face into the table and threw him across at his friend. Both fell to the floor and scrambled to recover. They threw themselves at Coby launching volley after volley of punches. Coby dodged each one grinning like an idiot, it was obvious he loved fighting. The brown haired jock tried to hit Coby in the right knee with a kick but Coby punched him in the face and kneed him in the stomach. He fell to the ground a bleeding mess. Meanwhile, the black haired jock attempted a king hit and got his hand caught and crushed in Coby's. Both scrambled away covered in bruises.
"I think I taught them a lesson."
"Yea no duh."
We high fived and another dizzy spell came on. This time instead of a collage of random images it was one in specific, a memory I didn't know. Coby was standing over me talking.
"If you wanted to survive this fight you shouldn't have decided to fight, running may seem cowardly but it works."
He stood up, pulled out a handgun and aimed it at my face.
"This dimension is cleansed of you now."
