The First Day
You’re walking down the street to your job. You notice people are getting twitchy, like they’re addicts or something. Some are trembling and jittery. But you? Not that much. You go and live your boring life, with your boring job and now not so boring co-workers.
You take a sip of coffee and start your day.
The Second Day
Now, people are getting weird. Weirder than usual. You see the Smith twins playing with knives outside and no one bats an eye. You swear that they skinned their own cat at the porch. You put on your suit and tie and go to work, unfazed. You feel like you’re delusional; you need your coffee.
You take a sip of coffee and start your day.
The Third Day
You watch the morning news and you see that little Sally Jensen looking at you through their window, unblinking. You always figured that girl was creepy. You continue watching and you see three more killings and a couple more suicides. What a turn of events.
You take a sip of the coffee and start your day.
The Fourth Day
The town’s gone mad. Everyone’s killing everyone, the flesh is ripping from their bones. Screams of agony are heard outside. You see mothers killing their kids and little Sally Jensen chomping her two-year old sister, while her parents restrain her. She chomps them too. You hastily grab your gun and essential stuff and lock yourself in the kitchen.
You take a sip of your coffee and start your first day of hell.
The Final Day
They’re in the house, trying to break down your door. You smell the blood and you know they’ve come in. You’re sorry for everything wrong, and hope the other side’s much better than this.
You put the gun to your head, take a final sip of coffee and pull the trigger.
