Chapter Five

Zayn stifled a yawn, imagining himself on a private island rather than stuck on a satin white chaise lounge, listening to his cousin battle it out with Jakob Driskoli.

"You don't understand," Tanya argued hotly. "Swans have to be at the wedding ceremony, it's part of the theme."

"Miss George, the church you are to be wed in does not allow any sort of animals. It is entirely impossible, unless you switch your venue," Jakob explained in a strained voice. He looked to be in his early thirties, dressed sharply in bow tie, red button down dress shirt, white suspenders that cris-crossed in the back, a pair of black slacks and white dress shoes. His once bubbly and enthusiastic demeanor had shifted to more annoyed and held back.

"But I can't, it's tradition to get married at that church!" Tanya's voice had risen an octave. Zayn cringed, hoping to God that his cousin would just comply and accept the fact that there were going to be no swans at the wedding.

"Tan, you can't have swans at the wedding okay?" Zayn finally told her in a tired voice. "There must be an alrernative, you don't have to have sw-"

"Yes I do," she snapped, brown eyes cold and unforgiving. "It goes with the theme, it will be perfect for the wedding. They have to be incorporated in some way." Just then, her phone rang and she disappeared to answer the call.

"I'm sorry," Zayn apologized to Jakob. "She's usually never gets like this."

"A wedding can make any person react like that," Jakob told him, a disappointed look was given to Tanyas turned back. He stood up and walked away, leaving Zayn alone.

Zayn sighed, tugging a hand tiredly through his hair. He was hoping this would be an easy discussion and he could be on his way again, but Tanya obviously had other plans. Even during his frustrated haze, Zayn tried to locate Elena's lithe body in the large store. He had no idea why. After today, it was clear she wasn't exactly comfortable talking to him.

Why she refused to speak to him was beyond Zayn. He had always been able to easily formulate a conversation between himself and the other person, but it was a huge struggle to even interact with Elena considering the fact she turned her back to him whenever he tried to start a simple chat with her. Then it occured to him that maybe he had come on to strong. Since she had never dated before, he guessed she never really experienced what it was like to have some male attention. Zayn was under the impression that he hadn't been to forthcoming, but he may have been wrong.

When Elena had confessed that she never dated before, he had been thoroughly shocked. Why some guy hadn't asked her out was something Zayn couldn't understand. How could a man not be attracted to her complete beauty and sweet persona was an idea that didn't make sense. Elena was different and unique. He didn't know what to assume about her, because there was nothing to assume. Elena kept herself shrouded in a cloud of mystery, and although it irritated him, Zayn liked it.

A movement by the doorway interrupted his train of thought. Zayn glanced up, his eyes landed on a girl with long brunette hair adjusting one of the flower displays on the marble pedistool. He recognized her instantly, and when she turned around, her sharp ocher eyes still took him by surprise. Zayn didn't think he could ever get used to the unique colored irises.

A tight smile curved her full lips, a shy wave was gestured him. Zayn wiggled his fingers in return, his own crooked grin quirked his mouth. A confused look crossed Elena's face once she realized he was alone. "Has Jakob seen you yet?" Her soft voice questioned. Zayn nodded, waiting until she walked closer before answering.

"My cousin had to take a call." He tried to keep the relief out of his voice, but it didn't seem to work. Elena gazed at him curiously, a small pout formed her heart shaped lips.
