Chapter Five: So we meet again.

Carter's  P.O.V

"Come on Carter! We're gonna be late!"

"No no no I am not going, I will only humiliate myself!" I proclaimed.

Brooke has been here for half an hour now, and she is still trying to get me to go to that art exposition.

"Remember how you told me that you are ready to do this on the phone?" Brooke remarked.

"Oh no when was that?" I said innocently.

"Carter..." Brooke gestured towards the couch, "come here,"

I sat next to her and waited for what she had to say. "I know that being in the spotlight is something very new to you, and you might be a little nervous, but this is an amazing opportunity. Life has given you another chance, you shouldn't waste it like that." Sincerity shone in her eyes, and it was impossible to deny this, it is truly an amazing opportunity.

"But what if-,"

"Don't ask yourself 'what if'," Brooke cut me off, "you will over think things and create problems that weren't there in the first place. Come on Carter, we are already late. If I were you, I woulnd't think twice about this."

And at these words, we left my apartment and headed to the show room.

Each step I made got me a little closer to a new beginning. A new part of my life. Brooke and I were walking on the sidewalk as we headed towards the show room. Since the cab dropped us off around the corner, we had to get to the showroom by walk.

"Are you okay?" Brooke asked concerned.

"Yes, just a little nervous, but that's okay," I shrugged it off. But needless to say, goose bumps were crawling all over my body.

When we arrived to our destination, I took a deep breath before stepping in. My jaw dropped at the sight in front of me. Many people were in there, admiring my work. And may I say everyone was dressed in a very fancy way.

"Oh God...," I gasped. Everyone seemed pretty happy. Brooke gave me a warm smile before giving me a small push towards the center of the room. There was the main painting of the exposition, "Beauty's Bitter Sweet". People seemed to love it. I walked a little closer to see what was written on the small paper next to the painted frame.

"That's not my phone number...," I said, more to myself.

"Who said this was a phone number? That's the painting's price," Samuel said standing right behind me.

"Oh, Samuel. I didn't see you come," I commented.

"This show is more than a success. We've already sold 10 paintings online and 21 paintings here," Samuel announced proudly.

My eyes widened. "Wow."

"Later you have to get some pictures to put in the art magazines. And if the main painting is sold, we will make a big fortune and you will get even more famous."

Samuel's words rang in my head as I took all the situation in.

And I finally realized it. I finally realized that I actually made it, I finally made a success.

I was walking in the halls, looking at my work, feeling prouder than ever. Then I stopped at the first painting I ever painted, and admired my art.

"How it all started with one painting, and now I'm here...," I said to myself.

"Yes you made a huge success in the art business," A black haired guy said to me.

"Thank you," I said, still looking at my painting.

"I am Dominic, and you must be Carter." The guy inserted.

"Dominic? Ouh fancy name," I joked. "And yes, I am Carter."

"It's nice to meet you," Dominic smiled warmly.

He was the kind of guy that looked rich and all, but had that look in his eyes that showed sympathy. He was well built, his eyes were a deep shade of green, and his black hair was flipped just the right way.

And let's say that we spent the rest of the night looking at my paintings, talking about art and throwing silly jokes and comments here and there...

"Thank you all for coming, thank you... thank you...," I started saying as each person came to me and gave me some compliments about my work before shaking my hand and leaving. Half an hour later or so, the showroom was finally empty, and I could finally go home. Brooke left early, since she had to work on some things related to her job. Surprisingly, More than half of my paintings got sold, but the main painting remained in its place.

I was waiting outside for a taxi cab to pass by, as I felt a presence behind me.

"It's really cold, what are you still doing here?" Dominic asked, putting his black jacket on my shoulders like a gentleman.

"I am waiting for a cab. Thanks for the jacket, but you don't have too..." I trailed off shyly.

"I can give you a ride!" Dominic said, sounding weirdly excited.

"Oh no no no, you really don't have too..."

"Come on it's fine, get in the car," he said as he unlocked a black Hummer that was parked at the at the other side of the road. Unwillingly, I followed that stranger I just met to his car.

A few minutes later, we were in front of my building, which was a few roads away.

"Tonight was fun," Dominic commented.

"It sure was. I still can't believe how successful it all was," I said.

"Would you... I don't know... Want to have dinner someday? Like, next week maybe?" Dominic said with a shy smile plastered on his face.

"That would be nice," I said. We exchanged numbers, then I said goodnight and headed to my apartment.

I closed the door behind me, and as I was going to lock it, the bell rang. I didn't even look through the pipe hole as I opened the door. Confusion appeared on my face, before being quickly replaced by shock.

"So we meet again."
