~Aurora~ 600 A.D.

THE BATTLE

Our armies were done for. Blood painted the grass and mixed with the dirt, my men laying beside me... Dead. Wiped from this earth. All I could hear was my cold heartbeat. All I could feel was the searing pain of the wounds made by holy blades and that unknown power...It clouded my vision. The enemy consisted of both vampires and humans-- humans with something behind their blade.

That unknown power...

I could feel my consciousness fade from me, my soul pulling me to the depths of the underworld. Once i closed my eyes, all I could think was...

I am finally dead.

I had no way to contact Orpheus. To warn him of what had just happened or what was coming to him. Not even telepathy would allow itself into my head.

My dear friend Orpheus. Forgive me.

My eyes finally shut heavy, allowing me to slip into that utter darkness, only to see my visions laying out the fiery lights of the underworld. Flashes of visions ran through my head, I could feel the heat starting to burn my skin.... This is how it would be for the rest of my souls eternal life...

But it was interrupted

Suddenly my visions stopped, leaving a ring coursing through my ears. A deafening sound...then a shout. A shout of plea. It was all muffled yet I couldn't make out what that interrupting voice was trying to say. I opened my mouth attempting to cry out. But all that I could muster to do was taste the dirt and blood on my tongue and chapped lips. My whole body burned like the fires of the underworld managed to touch my skin. Those wounds in my abdomen, shoulder, chest, and arms only screamed at me to stay down. Crying out to not move. The muffled voice game more clear... the ringing in my ears louder.

"MY LADY"

The voice was desperate and broken. Choked. Though it was not that of Orpheus.

The next thing I knew... I was in an empty cave. My wounds had been tended to... when I turned my head and opened my eyes, I found the lifeless body of one of my men. My captain below me. Loyal til his last breath.

Good bye, my captain.

Where was Orpheus? Where were his men? Where was I lying?
