The sky turns a deeper shade of red, and the sun is orange in the sky. One by one, streetlights flicker on and cast yellow eerie glows on the sidewalk. As we walk, the buildings get shorter and shorter and eventually all look the same except for house numbers. Again, as always, the walk is silent... and, again, as always, awkward as hell.
"Um... where are we going, exactly?" I ask.
"Well, I phoned my brother to see if we could stay over at hers for the night, since she lives in the area. You know, after camping out on the forest last night and all... we do kind of deserve a break." We walk around the same block a few times, then cross the street and go around another few blocks.
"We're lost again, aren't we?" I sigh.
"This time, I promise you we're not! I just wanted to get some egg distance, is all." he points to a house across the street with a grin. "Besides, that's where we're going! I hope you're not too tired."
"I'm not that tired, I'm just worried about these little guys." I pick up Shinx and Mudkip, who look exhausted, and put them in my backpack. "But yeah, I wouldn't mind sitting down for a few hours."
We cross the street and go up a few steps to reach the door. He rings the doorbell and I hear a male voice shout, "It's open!"
We enter the house and Spark chuckles and says, "You always leave the door open!" sitting at a table is a blonde guy, not much older than Spark, and has a bit of a beard starting to grow on his chin. I watch as they perform some elaborate bro-hug ritual while I kind of just stand in front of them like a sacrificial offering, again, awkwardly as hell. It takes a while of catching up before Spark decides to introduce you to him.
"Dan, this is my friend, Y/N. Y/N, this is my brother, Dan."
"Pleasure to meet you! Spark said a lot of things about you over the phone." He holds out his hand for you to shake.
"Good things or bad things?" You smile and shake his hand. He's kind of like Spark in the sense that they both look similar and have the same level of energy, but Spark is more simple and outgoing while Dan seems a bit rugged and worn.
He laughs. "You got yourself a good one, Sparky. Anyways," he glances at the clock. "You guys got in a bit late, so I took the liberty to eat dinner first. If you guys want, I have some McDonald's on the counter, but seeing as you guys just came out from the forest, I don't mind if you take a shower first. There's also a change of clothes for you guys in the bathroom if you need something to sleep in tonight, and I hope you don't mind, but you guys are probably going to have to share a room."
"I think we'll be okay with it." Spark grins. I start to blush.
"I'll... just go upstairs first." I rush up the stairs, set my bag on the bedroom floor. It's a pretty small room, with a queen size bed, a chair, and a ceiling lamp. Then I head off to the bathroom to take a shower. I take off my clothes first, and just as I'm about to take off my shirt, I hear the doorknob turn. It's only too late that I realize I forgot to lock the door. Oh sH-
Spark comes in. Hastily, I pull my shirt back down and we look at each other for a few moments, the air tense between us. "Um... hello." he says.
"SPARK, I'M TRYING TO CHANGE HERE."
He blinks. "Does that mean I can join you?"
"GET. OUT." I sigh as he leaves and the door slams closed. "Sorry about that." I call out to him.
"It's fine!" he calls from the other room.
Then I lock the door, step into the shower stall, take a quick shower, dry out my hair, pick up one of the smaller piles of clothing, change into that, and get out of the bathroom. I walk down the hallway towards the bedroom, but I notice that the door is slightly ajar. Spark seems to be talking to someone in the room. I quietly open the door all the way and stand in the doorway, listening to him talk.
Spark's POV:
I'm sitting on my bed with the lights turned off when I hear something wiggle in my bag. The egg!
I take it out of my bag, put it on the bed, and pull up a chair. I want to say something to it, but I'm not sure what.
"Hey there, little guy." I start and pause for a second. Sounds about right. "Um... I can't really say welcome to the world yet, since you haven't even been outside of your egg, but..." I trail off and think about everything that's happened in the past few days with Y/N.
"Take your time. You must be scared. But don't be! The world is a wonderful place. There are so many friendly Pokemon and so many friendly people! You're going to meet Blanche and Candela someday, and maybe after you hatch, you'll get a chance to meet Y/N too. She's really cute, sweet, caring, but also smart and pretty brave! I wonder why she chose Instinct, though...
"But I feel like I've screwed up everything since the day I met Y/N: kind of forced her to join my team, got her lost in the forest, ignored and left her alone for an entire afternoon, hurt her feelings. I made her cry. I don't like seeing her cry. It's just... you probably don't understand, but I like cheering her up, and talking to her, and making her laugh, and giving her hugs, you know? I like her." I smile at no one in particular, just at the egg.
"Spark." I hear a voice behind me say.
Your POV:
"Spark." I say quietly.
Spark whips his head around to face me. "Oh! Y/N... I didn't hear you come in..." I lean against the door frame, with my arms wrapped around myself and staring at the ground. There's a heavy silence between us. He knows I heard him, but he doesn't know if I understands. Spark gets up and lowers his voice in a way I've never heard him do before. "How much of it did you hear?"
"I heard... all of it." I straighten myself up a bit. "Do you... d-did you mean it?" I stammer. He looks away.
"Yeah, I did. I hope that's okay with you." He looks back at me. "Nev, you're shaking." I look at my hands. He's not wrong there.
"I...I'm just a bit nervous, that's it."
"What's there to be nervous about?" He gives me a hug and looks me in the eyes. I hug him back and put my head on his shoulder. "You know you can trust me." He says. I ignore him and take a deep breath.
"You know I like you, right? As in, 'maybe love you but probably too young to say it' kind of like you." I can feel him smile against my forehead.
"Now I do." Then Spark presses his lips against mine. It's something I wasn't exactly expecting, but I had a feeling that this was a possibility. I kiss him back.
I don't remember how long we do this, but it's a nice sort of feeling. Like I finally belong. It's going to be newer days from here on out.
