Everything's so fuzzy.

Is that Spark's voice? Wait, is that mom?

What happened?

Where am I?

Spark's POV

Oh my god.

Fuck.

I can't believe I did this. Did I do this?

The light filtered through the window, casting shadows in the wrinkles of her blanket. It didn't help that the whole room smelled like a clinic. I mean, it's a hospital anyways, so might as well smell like disinfectants and alcohol. Hah. That's something she would say.

I cradled her cold hand, which hung off the side of the bed. Y/N's skin had turned ghastly pale - from what, I don't know. The most noticeable change was her hair, which was now streaked with white and silver. I still don't know what I'm doing here, but I think I'm just here to make sure that she's okay. It sounds cheesy, but I don't want to put her in danger like that ever again.

"Spark?"

I whipped my head around so fast, I think I broke my neck.

"Oh, hey Mrs... L/N."

"Hi, Spark." she replied weakly. "How's she doing?" Her weary figure settled into a couch on the other side of her daughter's bed.

"She seems okay. The doctors say she's fine, but she hasn't gotten up yet."

"Ah. And how are you putting up?" I was a little amazed at her compassion. Yes, her daughter was lying in a hospital bed, in a hospital gown the color of sick, but here she was asking if other people were okay.

"I don't know. Once I know she's okay, I'm leaving and going after Ochre." I explained to her what had happened, from wandering the neighborhood and meeting the old couple to rushing Y/N to the nearest Pokemon Center on Zapdos. I must admit, it was pretty weird landing in front of a public area on the back of a legendary bird.

"Spark." she took her eyes off her daughter and drilled her gaze into mine. "You may be the team leader of Instinct, but you're still young. Take a break. Don't let this get to you. You can't keep straining y-"

"My instincts tell me I have to keep going. I hope that's alright with you." I felt my voice soften, even though I hadn't meant it to. Y/N's eyelids fluttered, and I rose out of my seat, trembling with anxiety and determination.

Your POV

My field of vision was flooded with all sorts of vibrant colors - blaring yellow walls, the stark blue sky, and the harsh white sheets, along with all sorts of light fractals whizzing through the air. I blinked, and it faded. The first thing I saw in focus was Spark grabbing his bag off the ground and slamming the door behind him. Then, my mom, with a tear running down her face.

"Oh, honey." She bent over and gave me huge hug. "I don't even know where to start."

I laughed. "Haven't seen you in a while either, mom. It's sad that we have to meet up like this." We chuckled like old friends. I suppose that's what we were.

She drew back from the hug and gave a slight gasp. "Y/N, your eyes."

"M-my eyes?"

I reached for my X Transceiver on the bedside table, only to grab onto thin air. That's right, I guess I was in the hospital for something. But first, my eyes. My eyes. I couldn't lose my sight, that wouldn't be fair. It isn't fair. What if I never saw him again?

My mom gestured to the wall on the right, where there was a mirror hung by a nail. I craned my neck, and caught sight of a completely different person. My skin was pale, almost snow-white, and a dash of white hair ran down the side of my head. No, the biggest changes were my eyes. They were electric blue, like neon, but not quite as tacky. A hollow feeling filled my ribcage. Worried and panicked, but also somewhat calmly, I said, "What... what happened?" Mom explained everything that happened.

"...well, at least that's what Spark told me." she finished.

Suddenly, I remembered him. His fond look, his ruffled hair, his smile, and the cute way he tilted his head to the side a little whenever he was confused.

"He said he was going after Ochre. He didn't leave long ago, so there'll be time for you to catch up to him-"

"Consider me gone." I slung my legs off the side of the bed, only to half-collapse, half tangle myself in all the lines that still plugged into my skin.

"I said, he didn't leave long ago, so there'll be time for you to catch up to him AFTER you've recovered."

She sighed and helped me back into bed, then looked at me with a pitiful expression. "I used to be like you once. I traveled the world with your father. And despite hanging around the city like he did as a boy, we settled in my hometown to study wildlife instead."  She planted a kiss on my forehead, sending me back into flashbacks and fond memories. "I'm telling you the world isn't going anywhere. There's always a little time for you to wait."

I gave her a sad smile. "I'm not going after the world. I'm going after him. I'm going to follow him, because even though he doesn't know it yet, we're best friends. And sure, he's team leader and everything, but he can't do a single thing right without me, and I can't do a single thing right without him."
