Stronghold

After a long night of tossing and turning, my alarm finally went off. I already have insomnia, making it hard enough to sleep as it is, and it doesn't help when you know your friend could die at any point in time. I sat up and rubbed my eyes. Time to get ready. I thought, unenthusiastically. Some days I wish I could just stay in bed, never wake up in a comfortable sleep.

But then I remember why I still get up in the morning, to protect the people close to me, and get revenge on those who did me wrong. That's why I joined the resistance, revenge, and it didn't take much to convince my friends to come with me.

I stood up and got ready for the day, if I was correct then we should be given a new mission today.

The Corporal was not happy at all to hear how our last mission went. Its went something like this, we were sent to gather information to help destroy Sir Jerksalot's army. Everything was going smoothly until the alarms started going crazy. We thought we were the reason they went off, but we had been so careful it was hard to believe it really was us, and when a group of soldiers came across us they seemed, surprised. We ended up fleeing, unable to collect any data.

So the mission was a fail, and I have no clue as to what out new mission could be.

After I was completely ready I walked over to a sleeping Bella. She was sleeping on her side, I can only imagine the pain she was going through. I had been shot before, but this was bad. The bullet hole was just above her waist and, even though I couldn't see it through the gauze, I could tell it was still bleeding.

One look at her face and I could see clearly that she was still in pain, even in her sleep. Everyone else was already awake and ready to call the Corporal. I walked over to the table in the center of the room, took a deep breathe, then called Corporal William.

A few seconds later his face and shoulders hovered over the table. Oh yeah, did I mention that we have a hologram projector? We have a hologram projector.

"Private Finn, I have a new mission for you and a few of your," he looked at me, a disgusted look on his face, "friends.

There is a high ranking officer in Jeremiah's army, and she would like to defect."

He must of seen the look of concern on my face, how are we supposed to help her? "Don't worry, she has agreed to meet us outside the perimeter of her base of operations."

"If you don't mind me asking," I said, "where is her base of operation?"

Vegas, it had to be Las Vegas.

Most people from the time of about, oh, I don't know, 2021 might of lived to come see Vegas. Not me. I would rather be confronting Jeremiah right now than doing this.

The helicopter hit a bit of turbulence and I was quick to grab the metal bar next to me and hold tight.

"Someone's jumpy." Jeremy pointed out.

"You know I don't like flying." I said.

"It's not like we're going to crash, Chloe is a great pilot."

"I don't doubt Chloe, I doubt the machine she's controlling."

There was a moment of silence.

"Five minuets out." Chloe said.

~~~Five minuets later~~~
When the helicopter finally landed I was out of there faster than a bullet out of a gun. We walked to the coordinates the Corporal gave us, we would have flown in but it was to dangerous to get that close in something easy to hit.
When we reached the area no one was there. "Where is she?" Jeremy asked.
"Maybe we got the coordinates wrong?" Chloe suggested.
I looked at the map I was holding, "Impossible, we got these from the Corporal."
"What time is it?" Jeremy asked.
I looked at my wristwatch "6:00 pm, why?"
"She's supposed to be here." He stated.
Chloe spoke up, "How about this, we give her five minuets and if shes not here we will just have to get out of here."
"Fine, but only five minuets, if we wait any linger the resistance might think we got captured." I agreed.
I heard a sigh from behind me. I spun around while pulling my gun out if its holster, pointing to a rock that I now knew someone was behind. Behind me I heard Chloe and Jeremy do the same. A few seconds later a women came out from behind the rock holding her hands up and looking at the ground.
"I'm sorry if I startled you." She looked up from the ground. The first thing I noticed were her eyes, they were such a dark brown, they might have been black were filled with years of pain and regret. The next thing I noticed was her smooth, chocolate-colored skin, free of scars and burns, it made me self-conscious of the large burn on my face.
Chloe suddenly said "Wait! Isn't this the officer thats defecting?"
"That is me." She said calmly, hands still raised.
Jeremy lowered his gun, but I still said "Chloe do an identity match with the picture the Corporal gave us."
"Yes ma'am." She said as she pulled out the map we had used to get here and selected the officers picture in the corner of the screen. She held it up to the person in front of us, a few seconds later there was a small ding, signaling that it was a match. I finally put my gun down and relaxed slightly.
I asked the routine questions, " Were you followed?"
"No."
"Your sure?"
"Yes."
"Are you one hundred percent sure you want to defect?"
"Yes."
"Good, because if not, we would have to kill you."
"Understandable."
I gave her a look, she didn't seem to realize that I did because she just stared me in the eyes. She was kind of intimidating.
"Come on, lets get back to base." I said, trying to ignore the look she was now giving me. It wasn't the same look, and I'm not sure what kind of look it was, but it was definitely strange. It was almost like she was sizing me up, figuring out the best way to kill me.
I shook those thoughts out of my head and led the way back to the helicopter. Let's get this over with. I thought as I climbed into the machine.
Hello, I know it been a while, but I had trouble writing this chapter. I didn't have writers block or anything, but it's because I use the names of people I know, and my friend (who's name I use in the book) was put on suicide watch. I'm not sure if he will ever be the same but I'm not going to stop writing this book.
On a brighter note, Fall Break starts TOMORROW!! Oh ya!!
Hopefully I'll be able to get at least 2 chapters out. Fingers crossed!
Later!
