All around Gracie was darkness. Peaceful, quiet darkness. She dint know where she was, or if she was dead or alive, but it didn't matter. Because wherever she was, nobody else was here, to look at her like crazy because she had just shot fire out of her fingers and almost killed her step dad. She was curious about why, and how what she did had happened, but she was much happier here in the darkness not thinking about it.
As Gracie was floating peacefully in the black abyss of nothingness, she suddenly saw a bright spark of light in front of her, and she could have sworn she heard a seemingly familiar voice calling her name comfortingly. She tried to ignore the bright light and the voice calling her, and stay in the darkness forever, but both were persistent. After several moments of continually ignoring the voice, she suddenly felt a tremendous cold spread through her body, and with a gasp, she opened her eyes, blinking her eyes rapidly at the sudden brightness around her. She was lying in a room that she knew wasn't in her house, but still seemed somehow familiar. She could feel piles of cushions under her head and blankets over her heated body, and her palms both felt overly warm. She slowly lifted them up informs of her eyes, muscles groaning in protest. What she saw on one of her hands almost made her loose consciousness again. One of her hands, the one she had blasted fire from, was glowing red, and there was a mark of some sort on it. Before she could scream, or cry, her mother was by her side.
"Oh Gracie! Thank goodness you're awake! I was so worried, you've been unconscious for almost three days! Are you alright?"
"Mum. I-I... What happen..." She tried to speak croakily, but her throat felt as if it had been rubbed with sandpaper, and she coughed, holding her stomach painfully.
"Oh darling. Don't try and speak. We will explain it all to you in a minute. But first you need a drink of water. Michelle, would you be able to get her a drink of water please?" Gracie's mum asked a lady who Gracie hadn't seen until then. She stood up and moved into Gracie's field of vision, and that was when Gracie recognised her. She was Michelle, their next door neighbour. Gracie wondered why on earth her mother had brought her here, and if Michelle knew what Gracie had done to her step father. Michelle smiled fondly at Gracie, then her mother.
"Of course. I'll be right back." She then hurried down the hall in the direction of the kitchen.
"You must be so confused. I'm so sorry darling, please try not to be too afraid. Everything will make sense soon." Gracie mother said, leaning over to kiss her forehead. Gracie doubted anything would ever make sense ever again, but she didn't voice the thought aloud, not wanting to upset her mother more than she already obviously was. She she kept silent as her mother sat back up and straightened her shoulder, breathing in, obviously preparing herself for something, though Gracie didn't know what.
"Ok. So first of all, I'm sure you're wondering why on earth I would have brought you to Michelle's house? Well, Gracie you see, you and Michelle are both special, and have talents, different to everyone else. What happened to your step father, that was, I might as well just say it, magic. Gracie, you are a wizard, and you can use magic to control the elements, and do almost anything, things that normal people can't, like how you produced fire from your finger tips. Remember when we were first talking about how you wanted to go to the ball, and you were a bit angry and then suddenly a massive wind came and slammed the door shut? That was you Gracie. Because you don't know how to control your powers yet, when you feel any intense emotion, like anger, your powers will, how do I put this, 'switch on' if you like. When you aren't feeling any very strong emotions, they will usually won't do anything, but because you were so angry, you just can't control them yet. But don't worry, Michelle will teach you. She's a wizard as well, and so was your Grandma. The wizard gift gets passed down through most of the children in our family, but I didn't get it, but you did. Gracie, your a wizard." Gracie had sat through her mothers unbelievable speech silently. By the end of it, her eyes were nearly popping out of her sockets, and although she didn't really want to believe that what her mother said was true, it kind of made sense. It did feel like she had an uncontrollable power inside her when she was angry. But she still wasn't too sure. Then, as Gracie was trying to comprehend everything, Michelle arrived back with a glass of water and a tray of food.
"Here you go Gracie. Because you were unconscious for so long, I've been having to give you energy using magic, but your probably still starving." She grinned, placing the food informs of Gracie, and right on cue, her stomach growled. The three of the laughed, although Gracie's was a slightly quite laugh then usual.
"I was starting to worry that you wouldn't wake up there, especially after the amount of energy it would have taken to blast your step dad with fire like that, so I had to use a spell to wake you up, that why you probably would have felt very cold as you woke up." Michelle said, and Gracie nodded, shivering slightly.
"Ok, well I might leave you too for a while, call out if you need anything. Bye Gracie." She said, waving at Gracie, who gave her a small smile in return. Gracie's mother thanked her before turning back to Gracie. She moved out of the chair she had been sitting in for the better part of the three day Gracie had been unconscious, and sat beside Gracie in the bed, putting her arm over her shoulder protectively.
"Are you feeling alright darling? I know it's a lot to process and, trust me, I understand. When Michelle first told me that she, my mother and you were all wizards, I didn't believe her for weeks, until she finally proved it to me by making me hover above the ground." Her mum laughed softly, shaking her head.
"Mum, wha-what happened to..." Gracie began hesitantly, and guessing who she was talking about, Gracie's mum answered for her.
"Oh, he's fine. But I kicked that bastard out of our house for good. I hadn't realised how cruel he was to you, or I would have gotten Michelle to blast him away a long, long time ago." Both of them laughed at the thought.
"I'm glad." Gracie said, then, having eaten all the food in front of her, she snuggled down on her mother's shoulder and closed her eyes and fell asleep.
