Gracie woke up the next morning to the irritating sound of her alarm at 7:25am. She sighed, then tossed off the blankets and gradually pulled herself unwillingly out of bed and headed downstairs in search of breakfast. Her mum was already I the kitchen, making herself a coffee. Her hair was slightly ruffled from sleep, and she looked up at Gracie as she came in, a tired smile filling her face. Gracie returned he smile, then grabbed the cereal and some milk and poured then into a bowl. Gracie's mums coffee was ready by now, and they both sat forensic at the bench to eat.
"Are you excited about this afternoon? A bit nervous?" Her mum asked Gracie, and she nodded.
"Yeah, both I think. I just really want to learn how to control my powers." Her mum nodded her head in agreement. In a few minutes, Gracie was finished her breakfast and was running up the stairs to pull on her school uniform. Then, she raced downstairs to grab the phone and call Lacey, to tell her that she was coming to school today and she would be at her house in a few minutes.
When Gracie arrived at Lacey's house, she knocked on the front door, then waited a few seconds until she heard Lacey racing down the stairs, then she had opened the front door and enveloped Gracie in a tight hug.
"Oh my gosh Gracie! What happened to you? You were away for three days, and then I tried calling your home phone, and your mum, but you didn't answer, and I was so worried about you!" Gracie hugged her back, then prepared her answer, knowing that she could never, at least not now, tell Gracie the truth.
"Oh sorry. I was just so sick, I had the worst cold, and I was vomiting non stop for the first two days."
"Oh really? That's terrible. Although, you don't really sound sick." Gracie gulped.
"Oh, well that's probably because I'm fully better now, and I was nearly better yesterday, but mum kept me home just incase I got worse again." Her answer seemed to satisfy Lacey, because she nodded, then turned around to shout a goodbye at her mother. They then walked arm in arm, Lacey not wanting to let go of Gracie, all the way to school.
The arrived at school a few minutes before the bell, so they walked over to sit with their friends until their first class. They sat chatting for a few minutes, everyone asking where Gracie had been. When the bell finally rang, Gracie and Lacey got up, separating themselves from the rest of the group and walked to their first class of the day, which was art.
"So, you still have to tell me who you like. Just because you were away sick for a few days doesn't mean I forgot!" Gracie nearly tripped over, but quickly recovered herself.
"I already told you! I don't like anyone Lacey!" But Lacey was persistent.

"Gracie, why don't you just tell me who it is? You know I wouldn't tell anyone, just like I know you wouldn't tell anyone about Tom." To tell the truth, Gracie did kind of like someone, and after a few seconds she decided she might as well tell Lacey, even if it was just to shut her up. So she sighed, then leant over to whisper a name in Lacey's ear. Lacey's eyes widened, and the put her hand over her mouth.
"I knew it! I knew it was Jake!" Lacey said, a bit to loud, and Gracie flinched before whispering to Lacey.
"Not so loud Lacey. I don't want anyone else to know!" They both laugh quietly. By then they had reached their classroom, and so they walked in and took a seat. The rest of the day went quite quickly, but not quick enough for Gracie, who was both anxious and excited about that afternoon. When the bell finally rang at the end of the day, she practically ran from her last class and into the parking lot, searching for Michelle's black car. She finally spotted it and raced over to her, opening the door and jumping in the front seat, a wide grin on her face.
"Hey. Bit excited about our lesson are you? That's good to hear." Gracie merely nodded her head vigorously, her grin never fading. On the short drive home, Michelle talked briefly about what the lessons would consist with, and they continued talking as the pulled up in her driveway, and walked into the living room. Today the were going to be practicing raising small items into the air. They spent about three hours practising, until the finally decided to have a break. Gracie had been able to raise a spoon in the air for a few wobbly seconds, and was almost able to raise a cup, but not quite yet. Then, looking at her watch, Michelle said that she should probably take Gracie home soon, but , after a few seconds, Gracie managed to convince her to give her ten minutes.
That was generally how Gracie's lessons with Michelle went for the next week- although she did start practicing different skills on different days. Gracie also had to make sure that she was still focused on her school work, and spending time with Lacey on days when she wasn't practising. By the end of the first week and a half, Gracie could hold a plate full of dinner in the air for over a minute, and much to ear mothers distress, she practised regularly over the dinner table. She could also heat almost anything with her hands, and was learning to heal injuries- so far she could only heal minor bruises and the occasional scrape. But, as Michelle had foreseen, Gracie was a very quick learner and was picking up in a few hours or days, things that had taken Michelle weeks.
By the Monday of the week of the ball, Gracie was feeling fairly confident that she could sufficiently enough for her mother to let her go to the ball. Her mother hadn't said a definite yes yet, but she also hadn't said no yet- which Gracie knew was a good sign. She still waited until Tuesday to ask her mum though. She walked down from her bedroom and into the kitchen, and cleared her throat.
"Mum, well Michelle said I've been doing really well in my training, and I haven't had any more 'magical accidents' so can I please go to the ball? It's this Friday, and well, I really want to go!" Gracie said, holding her hands in front of her, begging her mother.
"Oh, I suppose so." She replied with a smile. Gracie grinned widely, jumping up and down in excitement.
"Thank You so much mum! Your the best!" She gave her mum a big hug.
"What do I tell Lacey?" Her mother thought for a few minutes, then decided on a plan. They agreed to tell her that Gracie's mum and her step dad had broken up, and her mum said she could go to the ball. Gracie then called Lacey to tell her the good news. Lacey was a little excited, to say the least. She practically screamed in excitement, and Gracie could hear her running around the house, telling her mum. They then decided, after a brief consultation with Gracie's mum, that they needed to go shopping tomorrow after school. Gracie was feeling very excited about the ball, and had a bit of trouble falling asleep that night.
