FIRST TIME

I wrote this for a poetry slam. the theme was "first times" so I figured that I might tell you several of mine.

first time,
sexual starting with the first line.
where was it
and how did it happen?
we're all so concerned with
what everybody else is rapping.

why does first time
mean when I had sex?

could it be the first time
I looked into cold blue eyes
they told me
they took a big toll on me
they said
no one will ever love you
the way that I do, baby.

There was first time
that I ever ran.
maybe not the next time,
but the next time,
I ran
with stolen candy in my hands.

what about the first time
I ever got an A?
math wasn't good
but finally I understood that
I'm worth more than a letter grade.

maybe even the first time
I ever fell in love.
I thought we would get married
I guess everyone always does.

anyway
I lost my virginity in the back of a car.
and that's my story so far.
