Not So Romeo and Juliet

Chapter 4

Warning! Strong language!

Lucas :

Days went by as I continued to talk to Maya through Riley and Josh. Not like Josh was happy about it, but neither was I so I didn't bother with it. Until one day.

We were walking down the hall after Spanish. Once again, I had been given an assignment with Maya, and Josh had come up to me to ask about going to her house. Maya was following like a little puppy, but looked at the ground constantly. I was mad. And it was time to let it out.

Josh :

I will never forget that day until I die. I had gone up to Lucas to ask about some stupid assignment that they had been paired together in, but as I approached I saw Lucas get angrier and angrier.

"You know what? I am fucking sick of this! There is nothing wrong with me talking to Maya! What has been done is done! If I talk to her it's not going to make a difference to who the father is! There is a 50% chance it's your child so there is no point in saying we can't talk because it might be mine! And now... I don't even give a shit what you think." He stared at me but we were literally so close he was on my feet. And, to this day, I still can't believe what he did. He turned round to face Maya, lifted her chin, and kissed her. Passionately.

Maya :

When Lucas kissed me, I have to admit, I did enjoy it. I smiled up at him, but it was secretive that Josh couldn't see. We had a moment. Everything had frozen in time and it was just the two of us. I snapped out once Josh grabbed Lucas by the shoulder. He punched Lucas in the face and shoved him up against the lockers. Lucas kicked him back in the balls and Josh fell to the ground but brought Lucas down with him.

"Help! Someone! Help!" I screamed. Mr Matthews came running out of his classroom. He stood in the middle of the boys and they stopped fighting.

"Maya. Go get the nurse. Now." I nodded, but wasn't happy because she was on the other side of school. I ran off and returned with the nurse about 7-8 minutes later. Josh had a nosebleed and a sprained wrist but Lucas had a cut on the back of his head and a dislocated knee.

I was not happy with them and I did not feel well at all. I told the nurse and she said that I could leave. Before I went, I turned around to the boys. Mr Matthews raised his eyebrows and left to his class.

I walked out of school and went straight onto my phone. I clicked onto my messenger and created a new group.

Me:
Both of you. My house tonight at 6pm. No excuses. Be there on the dot. I am not happy with either of you.

Huckleberry:
Okay. See you then.

Uncle Boing:
I'm not going if he's gonna be there.

Huckleberry:
I don't want you there.

Me:
Stop it. You will both turn up no matter what.

Uncle Boing:
K.

Huckleberry:
Fine.

It was going to be a long night.

Lucas :

I made sure to arrive at 5.55pm before Josh so I could talk to Maya. I knocked on the door of her apartment and she dragged me inside. She took me by surprise by hugging me. She was squeezing really tight and I saw some tears form in her eyes.

"I missed you." She whispered.

"Same." I brought her head even loser to my chest as she started crying.

"I'm so sorry!" She repeated in between gulps of air.

"Maya, it isn't your fault. It's Josh's. We would've been able to talk if he didn't overreact. Come on now. Shhhhh." I soothed her.

"Shit, my makeup. I'll run and fix it but will you go hide in one of the front rooms until Josh comes? Once he gets into the back room, the door will be unlocked so go and pretend that you've just arrived. He'd kill me otherwise. Please?" She had these beautiful little puppy dog eyes. I agreed to the plan and went to hide. I heard Josh arrive and saw Maya run to the door.

"There better be a good reason why I'm here? Is that dickhead here yet?" He asked as he stepped inside.

"Nope. You're here first." She faintly smiled at him as he walked into the living room. I quietly ran out and snuck out the front door.

"Hello." She said as she let me in. As I walked into the living room, Josh smirked and got his phone out. Maya walked right up and grabbed it out of his hands.

"What the fuck?" Josh shouted.

"Lucas, give me your phone. Now." She stared at me. I sighed and took it out of my pocket. She went and put them in the safe under the table and locked it.

"So... Why did you call us here?" I asked.

"You are both here because you need to learn how to get along. I have taken all phones and put them in the safe. I have locked all windows and doors so you can't leave. I turned the wifi off. You are going to work out your problems and I am going to sit in here with you in case anything happens again. We will stay here all night if you still aren't getting along. You hear me?" Josh groaned as I agreed.

She wasn't kidding about being there all night. At least it was Friday night/ Saturday morning so we didn't have school. Josh wouldn't work with me to try and get along. Maya shifted about lots, obviously worried. At about 5.15am she woke all of us up. We had obviously fallen asleep, Josh and I at either end and her in the middle. She got up and ran out of the room and into the bathroom. Josh stayed where he was but I immediately followed to find her throwing up in the bathroom. Morning sickness. I thought. I pulled her hair back for her. I rubbed her back to make her feel better but then I was bumped out of the way by Josh.

"Don't worry babe. Joshie is here." He tried to soothe her. I rolled my eyes and started to make breakfast for us. And that's when I saw it. I heard Maya's bedroom door shut.

"Josh! Come here!" I called.

"Ugh, what? It's only 5.30am." He said as he walked along the corridor. I showed him the fridge. Inside was nothing. Nothing that you could eat. The only food was mouldy. Badly mouldy.

"Oh my fuck." Josh was astounded. "I'll go out now and buy loads of food. You say to her about the food." He got into the safe in one go. And now, I had to do my job.
