I slipped my body through the window and quietly glided across the room. I had to do this quickly and seamlessly. I put my gloved hand on a picture hanging on the wall. It displayed a family laying on a blanket in the summer. I quickly twisted it clockwise. There was a loud click that echoed through the room. I spun around to see if I woke the man sleeping on the bed beside me. I pulled the picture back to reveal a safe. Quickly I unlocked it. It opened to reveal a large Ruby. I snatched the jewel from the safe and put everything back into its place. I disappeared through the open window like a shadow, lurking around the corner of the house, balancing on a thin ledge. Below me was a twenty-foot drop. I finally made it to the edge of the ledge and jumped onto another house. An alarm sounded. Dang it! I tripped the alarm. Of course, someone puts a laser trip wire across their house to another! I ran, my black figure barely noticeable in the dark. I thought I was home free until wham! I was flat on the ground struggling with a tall burly man. He pinned me to the ground and handcuffed my hands behind me. I was hauled to my feet and dragged to the police car. He pushed me inside and slammed the door. We drove away from the house. I watched the traffic slow down so we could pass. I know what everyone was thinking. But all I could hear was the sirens ringing in my ears.
