Steve's POV

"She didn't say it back." I say sadly to Tony as we sit by Zoey's bed.

She's been asleep for a few hours, and in that tine I've had a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.

"She will." Tony tells me reassuringly, "She just needs to rest."

I sigh, my shoulders sagging.

"You don't have to do this to yourself." He tells me.

"What?"

"Go get some sleep yourself," He says, "You look dreadful."

"But-"

"I'll get you when she wakes up." He says earnestly.

I send Tony a small smile, heavung myself off the chair and out of the room.

I stumble tiredly down to my room, my eyes drooping as soon as I hit the pillow.

Zoey's POV

The nothing-ness had returned.

But things were different.

I didn't feel cold, my beating heart warming up my blood as it travelled around my body.

The falling feeling had disappeared, and I didn't have the feeling of overwhelming fear enveloping me anymore.

I could see colours, too. Flashing by in blazes of green and yellow, red and blue swirls dancing under my eyelids.

I knew I was safe this time, I knew I didn't have to fear it anymore.

"Zoey." The voice wafted over me, giving me a sense of security.

It wasn't Steve, the voice calling out my name, I'd recognise him straight away, I'd never get his voice wrong.

No, this voice was a different one, familiar and protective, reminding me of the laughter of one of my family.

I could tell it was him. I wanted to talk to him so bad, to let him know that I'm okay.

Just to see his stupid face again.

My brother's face.

My friend's face.

Tony.

Tony's POV

"Zoey," I say to her when Steve leaves.

"Zoeybird, I know you're exhausted, but I hope you can hear me."

I lean in close, my face close to her ear.

"You have to wake up, and tell Capsicle how you feel." I tell her, "He's dying inside, because he loves you too. So make him feel better."

I pull away, sighing as I lean back in my chair.

I hear movement beside me, turning to see Zoey's hand twitching.

"Zoey?" I ask, "Zoeybird, can you hear me?"

"T-Tony?" She calls out, making me rush to her side.

"It's me, Zoey," I clutch her hand in mine, "It's me."

Zoey's eyes flick in my direction, cloudy and distant.

"Zoey?" I ask, "Can you see me?"

Her eyes blink once more, unclouding and focusing.
