Chapter Eleven
Andrew didn’t bother knocking on her chamber door, she was probably asleep as Ian mentioned. He crept quietly towards her bed she was a vision of loveliness as she slept peacefully. She lay on her side, her palms curled up under her chin, her glorious hair fanning her pillow. Her cheeks were flushed pink the room was warm from the fire that Ian must have built up for her.
Andrew knelt beside her and uncurled one of her hands to entwine her fingers with his. It was her right hand that he was holding, her fingers were so delicate, and her soft skin was like porcelain. Looking at her fingers, he smiled as he thought that soon her fourth finger would adorn the McKenna family ring.
Andrew always remembered the beautiful ring that was on his Mother’s hand, now he would give the same ring to Emma. She would love it. The ring was gold, with a wide band that has a row of rubies and a row of emeralds nestled within. The story behind the ring was that Andrew’s great-great-great Grandda could not decide on rubies or emeralds for his bride, so he decided to make the ring with both. Now the ring is part of the McKenna clan history and all the Lady McKenna’s are to wear the ring.
Andrew also made a mental note to summon the village seamstress and have a McKenna plaid made just for Emma. If she wanted, she could embroider her name as she did on the plaid that was found with her. He was sure there were bolts of McKenna plaid in the storage rooms. If anyone was to know, it would be Ian.
Speaking of Ian, Andrew knew that he would have to have a little chat with his brother one of these days. After he and Emma were married, there was no way that Ian was going to be taking tea with Emma in the wee hours of the morn. Andrew had other plans for the wee hours of the morn with his bonny bride and they don’t involve anyone but him and her.
She was starting to stir a bit and slowly she opened her eyes. Andrew took her hand and kissed her ring finger and gave her a smile. She smiled back.
“Good morn my sweet,” Andrew whispered to her as he cradled her palm on his cheek. She looked beautiful. Her hair was all tousled her lips lush and her violet eyes luminous. Some sleep did her some good.
“Aye, a very good morn if I get to wake up and see ye,” Emma replied blushing caressing his cheek with her hand.
“Ian told me there is not a bairn Emma,” Andrew remarked, feeling a bit shy speaking of things he didn’t know much about.
Lowering her eyes, feeling a bit embarrassed speaking of woman things, “Aye, it’s true I’m not carrying a bairn. This makes you happy Andrew?”
“Aye Emma, I’m very happy. You know that I love you,” Andrew told her, he couldn’t help but smile as he tilted her chin upwards to look into her eyes..
“As I love ye Andrew,” she whispered back, leaning forward to place a feather-light kiss on his lips.
