Chapter Fourteen
For the next three days Gillian and Emma worked on her wedding gown. The gown was nearly finished and Emma was breathing a sigh of relief. She knew now that if she did not ask Gillian for help, she would have never had completed her gown on her own. Gillian had even convinced Emma not to put any of the ivory lace on her gown, she advised that it would be too much with the gown and then the McKenna plaid. Emma was hesitant, but once the gown was taking shape and the plaid lain across, she understood what Gillian had meant.
"Lady Emma," Gillian murmured as she was doing some final stitches to the hem of Emma's gown. "I was wondering if ye might like a nightshift made out of your ivory lace?"
"A nightshift?" Emma asked her back. "Andrew said that once we were married, I dinna need a nightshift any longer." Emma muttered to herself but it was heard by Gillian who turned beat red and Ian who burst out laughing.
"Och...lass........ye listen too much to my brother," Ian chuckled out shaking his head. "If ye want to wear a nightshift to bed, ye wear one." He told her as he bounced Duncan on his knees.
"Perhaps Lady Emma if Andrew dinna want ye to wear a nightshift, tis fine, but on your wedding night, tis more.........um....tis more......." Gillian looked over to Ian now for some help because Emma's innocence very clear to her. "Ian.....?"
"Nae......dinna look at me for some help," he chuckled again not wanting any part of the conversation.
Gillian realized now that she was going to be on her own..........."Um.....Lady Emma....twill be more enticing for your groom." She looked over at Ian now....."Sir Ian.....do ye agree with me?" Ah....now she would watch him squirm. And squirm Ian did.........and he turned red too.
"Och....welll.......um........." he looked around uncomfortably now, his sister-in-law looking up at him so innocently...."Aye!".....was all that he managed to get out. He stood up so quickly now, Duncan still clinging to him..........."Well.....I think that I will take wee Duncan with me to the kitchens to see if perhaps we can get him a biscuit." And with that, he scooted out of the solar in lightning speed.
Now it was Gillian's turn to laugh. Turning back to Emma now........"I could make a nightshift for ye then. Twill look lovely on ye lass and truly, Andrew will love it." Gillian smiled at her.
"Tis no scandalous to wear a nightshift made of lace?" Emma asked her questionably. "Ye can see right through it!"
Gillian sighed now........."Aye, ye can see right through the lace but twill only be ye and your husband." She looked at Emma now, hoping that she would understand and finally the blushed crept from the base of Emma's throat to the tip of her forehead and Gillian breathed a sigh of relief.
Emma hesitantly asked her...."Ye are sure that Andrew will like it?".......the blush still high on her cheeks.
"Aye......I'm very sure that Andrew will no like it but he will love it." Gillian told her with a reassuring smile.
A knock on the door startled the woman. Emma went to answer since no one asked for entry.
"Andrew........ye canna come in the solar," Emma frantically told him for her gown was on the table still be stitched by Gillian. She was blocking his view, afraid that he would see her gown.
"I dinna want to come in the solar, I want my bride," Andrew told her and gave her brilliant smile. Over the top of Emma's head, Andrew asked Gillian to come to the door.
