Prologue

"Anna Hastings will be missed" The priest said

I stared at him. Did he believe in God or was it just a act?

I felt a nudge. I looked up at my Nanny.

"Pay attention." She said

I looked at the coffin. It began to descend so it can be apart of the earth. I looked at my father and he was staring at my Nanny. He's the reason mom died.

When the burial was done, father's friends came over to talk business while mom's friends comfort me.

"Your mom's looking over you, Genevieve" Jocelyn,one of my mom's best friend, told me

"I know" I said

"Gen, we need to go" My Nanny said

"Bye" I said as I waved at mom's friends and walked towards her

She grabbed my hand. I wanted to pull away,but I couldn't because dad wouldn't like that. We got in the car and waited for father. A couple minutes have past and father finally got into the car.

"Where to,sir?" John,our driver asked

"To the house" Father said,John nodded and drove off towards the house

1 hour and 15 minutes past

"I hate traffic" Nanny said as she got out of the car

"Doesn't everybody,Kayla" Father said as he got out too

We walked towards the stairs,but I stood there and Nanny and Father walked up the stairs.

"Genevieve, what are you doing?" Father asked

"I can't walk up the stairs" I told him

"Why?" He asked as he walked down the stairs

"It feels different without mom, walking up the stairs" I told him

"Genevieve,you have to get used to it. Your mother is in a good place" Father told me,I nodded

He held out his hand and I grabbed his hand and we walked up the stairs together and into the house.

"Kayla,can you take Genevieve to her room and help her take off her clothes" Father said

"Yes" She said,she grabbed my hand and we walked towards the stairs

When we got to my room, I moved away from her when she tried to touch me.

"Genevieve,I need to take your dress off" She told me

"I can do it myself" I told her

"Gen,let me hel-"

"I can do it myself,Kayla. I'm 12 years old!" I yelled at her

"As you wish" She said and she walked out of my room

I walked towards the door and locked it. I tried to take my dress off,but I couldn't unzip it. I sat on the floor,raise my legs up and wrapped my arms around my legs. I stared at the wall,where a picture of me,mom,and dad were smiling . Why did mom have to die? Why did she leave me with father and Kayla? I shook my head as I tried to get the imagine out of my head.

Flashback

I walked towards father's office. Mom asked me to get him because she needed her medicine. I didn't know where he put her medicine at. When I finally got to his office,I was about to knock,but stopped when I heard strange noises.

"Rafael,I'm about to come!" I heard my Nanny yelled

"Be quiet,Kayla. We don't want Genevieve or Anna to hear us" Father said

What's going on in there? I got on my knees and looked through the key hole. I quickly looked away and ran back to mom's room.

"Gen,what's wrong?" Mom asked as I slammed the door shut

"Nothing" I said

"It's not nothing if you came in here,running" Mom said

"I thought I saw a ghost in the hallway when walking towards father's office" I lied

"Okay. Now,come here" She said

I walked over to her and got into her bed. She pulled me towards her and hugged me

"Gen,I need you to promise me something" She said,I looked up at her

"What is it?" I asked

"Stay by your father's side when I leave" Mom told me

"Mom,your not going to leave. I'll make sure of it" I told her as I hugged her tighter

End of Flashback

"I'm sorry that I can't keep your promise, mom." I cried out
