Tears ran down Eliot Galinski's checks. His skinny, bony body lay huddled in a muddy puddle under the veranda of the old leaky home he had taken shelter in. Rain drops fell into a nearby red bucket. Eliot glanced around him, trying to take in his surroundings. The murkiness of the rain gave Eliot a constant feeling of being lost, afraid, alone.
Eliot ended up staring into nothingness. Realising this, he stopped and turned his attention back to his thoughts and constant painful memories.
It was hard for Eliot to be fourteen and facing all the dangers of being of Jewish descent. Ever since Nazi Germany won the second world war, its republic had grown to be nearly half the size of the world - A rein bigger than that of the british empire. While this was happening, the rest of the world fell into mayhem. Friendships, partnerships and societies were torn apart as sides were taken, war now became an ever constant scenario. Because of these wars, several major sides came through as 'top dogs.' The biggest of these, the Republic of Nazi Germany, lead by Alois Hitler Jr.
Eliot shuddered at the name, shivers creeping up his neck. He could remember the horrific tales of how he tortured and killed many of Eliot's fellow Jews, many he had known. Stories of what he did to his friends kept on sticking in his mind, never to be erased.
The most vivd was Alois's most favourite type of torture. It was nicknamed 'the chair' by many. The victim, most likely a Jew, was tightly strapped to a chair containing over 1000 tiny metal spikes for 5 hours at a time; the longer they sat in the chair, the more the spikes slowly punctured their skin. If you dared move in the chair, that pain got worse. It was a nasty, slow and painful way of torture created by Alois himself.
Alois had risen to the power when is father, Adolf hitler, was assassinated. Adolf was shot in the head by an unknown sniper who was never found. After that, he was in a joint rule with his sister, Lene Hitler, for 10 years. In the tenth year, Alois 'accidentally' killed her. Eliot remembered his parents telling him about how Alois killed his sister. She had apparently attacked him and tried to shoot him, this had caused Alois to strike back, killing her.
Eliot had already decided that the whole Hitler family was full of crazy and murderous psychopaths, and this just inflamed it. Their destructive ways had not helped anyone in any way, it hadn't united them, it hadn't brought them together peacefully. It had instead done the opposite, turning humanity into blood thirsty creatures; human life nowadays was just a piece of garbage - easily disposable.
The Nazi's were not the only threat to Eliot's life. The Japanese Pacific States, a group of countries taken over by the Japanese after WWII, constantly search for outlaw Jews in hiding. If found, they are sent back to the Nazi's in exchange for money and resources. As their states were continuously growing, the Japanese reach expanded, going out as far as South America. This all came to a stop when they signed a controversial peace treaty with the Nazi's in 1965 called The Partnership Of States. The treaty sparked outrage with many and caused two of the most religiously democratic rulerships of the 21st century to arise - The Monarchy of Islam (Or Arabia) and the United African Union.
The Monarchy of Islam, an extremist monarchy funded by the now abolished Arabian government, controls most of the middle east and parts of Africa. Eliot remembered reading how it constantly fights against the United African Union.
Eliot sighed.
The United African Union. Those four words continuously encouraged Eliot. They were the Jews only hope after all. It was his dream to fight among his fellow Jews, to fight against the Nazi's who murdered his parents, to fight for the freedom he and every other person rightly deserved. This is what the United African Union, a rebel and Jewish lead group, believed in. This group was constantly fighting for their freedom and rights against the Monarchy of Islam and Alois's Nazi's.
Eliot ruffled his hands through is sandy blonde hair in annoyance. He was never going to get there, it was basically impossible. Even then, right at that very moment, Eliot was stuck in the middle of everything. Literally everything.
The last group of countries are categorised as neutral zones, these included a select few that stayed or became neutral during/after WWII. Eliot was in one of them - Switzerland. It was the only country not taken over by the Nazi's in all of Europe, despite pressure from the Republic's high ranking genrals. Even though it was a neutral zone, It was said to be one of the hardest countries to escape from as a Jew.
Eliot's thoughts were disrupted by a sudden opening of the rickety wooden door behind him.
"Come on Eliot!" A dark haired boy about Eliot's age said, "We gotta leave now."
The dark haired boy's name was Ben, a close friend of Eliot and fellow Jew. Ben was about 3 years older than Eliot but a good friend. He held a sleek look, moderate build and deep complexion. His pale hazel eyes always seemed to twinkle when you looked into them.
Eliot wiped away his tears, hoping Ben didn't see them, and jumped up from where he sat. He caught his reflection in the red water bucket next to him. Blue, sad, lonely eyes starred back. Eliot looked away. He had to do this, hardship had never stopped him before.
Eliot walked down off the porch and into the cold rain. The last thing he thought of as he stepped onto the wet ground was his parents. Their warm, soft faces smiled back at him in his mind.
He was going to do this, for his parents..for his family.
He was going to be one of the few Jews to escape Switzerland.
Tonight.
