>>Fourteen<<
Fourteen found Michael Clifford and Maddie Anderson sitting in her backyard on a beat-up metal framed swing-set that they had played on for probably six years before deciding to turn it into a cool place to hang out. It was reinforced with some two-by-fours and they loved it.
“Fourteen.” He said. “Here’s to fourteen more.”
“I hope we’re still friends in fourteen years.” She sighed.
“Me too. In fourteen years, I want our kids to be best friends.” He said.
“Promise?” She whispered.
“I promise” he said.
>>Fifteen<<
Fifteen found Maddie Anderson sitting in Luke Hemming’s bedroom with Michael Clifford strumming his guitar and nonchalantly making up a song about boobs, much to Maddie’s horror and Luke’s amusement. Fifteen meant high school, and new friends and she could just as easily been hanging out with Emily or Tori, but no, she chose to spend her fifteen birthday with Michael Clifford being an idiot. Midnight found her and Michael sitting on the roof of his garage with cans of Dr. Pepper and sparklers.
“Fifteen.” He said. “Not bad for two kids from Sydney. Fifteen years of friendship. How do you deal with me?”
“I’m used to you, Clifford.” she said. “You’re like my other half.” She shoved him lightly and laughed.
“Hey! I’d like to make it to sixteen” he said, laughing
“Shut up Clifford” she rolled her eyes.
>> Sixteen <<
Sixteen found Maddie sitting in Calum Hoods garage as Michael’s band, 5 Seconds of Summer practiced. Sixteen meant a drivers license and freedom from her over protective parents. She could be at the mall or the beach but she was sitting in this hot ass garage listening to her best friend make music and watching him get sweaty. As much as she liked to deny it, she may have had a little crush on him. It wasn’t her fault he kept getting hotter, okay?! Midnight once again found them sitting outside drinking Sprite and setting off fireworks.
“Sixteen.” He breathed out. “Can you believe that?”
“Two more years, and I’m out of here.” She said.
“Are you gonna miss me?” he said.
“Of course.” She told him.
“Promise?” he asked.
“I promise” she grabbed his hand and squeezed it.
