Write about what you are interested in. If you write about something that you don't like, then it will just sound jerky and unpleasant, unlike when you write something that you enjoy, you will be able to get a flow going, and less mistakes will be made.
I don't like writing about sports. Since I am not familiar with many, I have little to no experience on writing sports articles because I am not interested in the sport that I have to write about. (Running ugh!) I have been told from my journalism advisor/editor to stick to things not having to do with sports, because when I write sports I "seem to have a lack of interest."
No one wants to read something that sounds like the writer was bored with it. Eew. *brain vomiting*
But I AM interested in poetry. And from what I have heard, when I write about what I want to, I make people cry because it's so touching (or so they say...)
Writing about things that you like makes it easier to accept criticism, because you are eager to do your best at that certain subject, to improve and become a better writer all together.
Accept criticism well on what you enjoy writing. I was criticized on part of a book that I wrote, and I tell you, it was some harsh criticism. After that episode, I took all of the criticizer's advice to heart and the good thing about it is that: I didn't feel hurt. The person who criticized me actually helped me. But if I were to be slandered and sent hate messages I would probably cry. *sniff sniff* Thank goodness that hasn't happened yet.
