MELISSA'S POV

...............................................................

I sat on the leather couch. It's so old the leather peels off and underneath small creases hides mold. I look around the room. Brown wallpaper peals off the walls revealing pink paint. I look down at my feet. My black boots are untied and dirty. I decide to try and listen to the conversation in the room. I sit up next to the wall and press my ear next to the wall, but all I can hear is my breathing. The room has insulation stuffed inside. They are having a secret meeting they want no one to find out about. The door swiftly opens. I turn around and start tying my shoe laces trying to act natural. I look up to see who was in the meeting. My mom stood next to Monroe and smiled and shook hands with the other Militia governors that walked out. Once they all left my mom spoke up. "Come Melissa we must get ready for dinner Monroe is conning over." She says softly and smiles at Monroe. I stand up and look at Monroe. I give him a glare and walk away. As we exit the building I ask rudely "why is Monroe coming over? Going to talk?" I say as I put quotation marks around talk. It was obvious what they were doing. "Don't start with me liss." She snaps at me. Liss is my nickname. I hate it but you get used to it after awhile. The rest of the walk to our home was in silence except for the wagons, horses and conversations at the end of streets. When we arrived to our house I stormed upstairs and slammed my door. I sit down on my bed. I slowly roll up my leather hunting jacket my father gave to me when I was little. He told me never to wear it until I was ready to. I look at the bandage on my wrist. As I peel it off the Monroe symbol is scared on my wrist. The painful memories come back into my mind. The training, the tests, and the marks. Hatred came through to me. I wanted to destroy Monroe. Kill him. I wanted to start my own militia but with peace and no war. I roll down my sleeve and start to read a book off my shelf.

I run downstairs to my mom calling for me. Once I reach the bottom I freeze. There stood Will with a bouquet of freshly picked flowers. I run up to Will and give him a big hug. "I missed you." I say getting teary. "I missed you two." He says hugging me back. He gives me protection and warmth and I never want to let go. He broke the hug to give me a kiss. His warm lips made me want to do this all day. We could if Monroe hasn't spoke up. "Who is this?" Monroe asks looking at Will. "This is my boyfriend." I say with a smile.
