(CHRIS’ POV)
I was glad to say that Audri was feeling a lot better. It had been a long two months of therapy and depression pills before I started seeing changes in her. Her therapist told her to move out of her apartment that would always remind her of Maurice, and move back in with her mom. She still has blankets and toys that belonged to Maurice, but the therapist said it would be a while before she could get rid of them and let them go.
One day, to take Audri’s mind off of everything, I decided to take her to the beach. It was really sunny outside and I knew she would enjoy it since I paid for it to be just us two. It took me a while to convince her to come, but once we got there it seemed like all her problems just disappeared…even if it was just for those hours. We played in the water for a while, and she was even smiling and laughing a little.
“CHRIS!” she yelled when I threw water on her.
She retaliated by splashing water in my face and laughing while running away.
We ran back to the towels that I laid out.
“You’re a slow runner,” she said and giggled.
“Whatever,” I laid next to her.
There was silence as we both watched the waves pass by and the sun beginning to set.
“Thank you Chris for giving me the best day I’ve had in a while,” she turned on her side to face me.
“Anything for my baby,” I said jokingly.
“Your baby?” she was smirking.
“You know you’ll always be my baby,” I said and was leaning in to kiss her cheek, but she turned and I caught her lips.
She pulled away smiling, “Thank you Chris.”
I was shocked she kissed me, but I would’ve done anything to see her smile the way she did.
We packed everything up, and I wanted her to stay the night with me since her mom wouldn’t be home.
Audri and I drove back to the condo, and after we each took a shower, we got in bed.
“You know, it’s been a whole day, and I haven’t cried once,” Audri said laying on my chest.
“That’s great. You see, you’re making progress.”
For a few minutes there was silence again, and I thought she fell asleep until I heard her say something.
“I wonder why-…never mind,” she said.
“You wonder why what?”
She sighed, “I wonder why I couldn’t have both you and Maurice. It was like you were here, then you left me, then Maurice was here, then he left me, and now you’re back.”
“If I could change how things turned out, I would. Just know, that I’ll never leave you again,” I said in her ear.
“But, don’t you have to go back to Cali to record some songs or something,” she asked.
“No, my manager knows that I needed a few months off after that tour. He won’t bother me,” I said.
“Are you sure?” I guess she was expecting me to leave her like everyone else has already done.
“I promise. I won’t let anything happen. The only time I’ll leave you is if you tell me to,” I said, “Now go to sleep. I have a surprise for you tomorrow.”
“What is it?” she asked.
“You’ll see…” I replied.
Within minutes we were both sleep, and I could already tell things were going to get better.
