Before you read this, know that this is JUST A PROLOGUE.  I haven't finished the story yet and probably won't be uploading that often, so be forewarned.  This part will basically allow you to get to know the main character and the future love interest.  Hope you enjoy! :D

"Jensen!  JENSEN!"  A booming voice called and caused me to very abruptly be awoken from the serenity of my dreams.  "If you fall asleep in class one more time I'm going to have you expelled.  You hear me?"   I looked up and saw my teacher, Mr. Crandall, standing at the front of the Biology lab.  His nostrils were flaring and eyes became beat red.  Apparently me falling asleep in class everyday for an entire semester has irritated him.  Who would've thought?  I nodded towards him to show that I understood.  Mr. Crandall would never fallow through on any of his threats, I know this from times past.  Every day that I have fallen asleep in class he has made the exact same threat to me, never once has he done anything about it.

I pulled out my books and began to take notes on the structure of animal cells.  Biology was such a bore to me.  Nothing interesting ever came about.  And all of the concepts were just too hard to comprehend.  I was failing Biology, and nothing could change that.  Biology seemed to be the only subject, the only of the sciences, that I struggled with.  It also didn't help that Mr. Crandall was an awful teacher.  Mr. Crandall wouldn't explain any of the concepts that he was trying to teach us.  All that he would do is make us write down notes after notes and eventually we would have a quiz on what we had apparently "Learned" and "Understood".

Mr. Crandall's Biology Lab wasn't like any other classroom in the school.  Most classrooms tended to have inspirational posters around the classroom, but not this one.  The only thing that cluttered the walls was diagrams of systems and the periodic table of elements.  Every single wall in the room was painted an eggshell white, which gave the intense feeling of lifelessness wherever you stood.  I dreaded every second that I had to stay in Biology class.

"Umm... Excuse me?"  The door creaked open slowly and revealed a shy girl standing in the doorway.  She had an armful of books, nearly twice her size.  It was quite apparent that she was a new student at Gatesville High.  "Is this Mr. Crandall's Biology class?  I think I'm lost."

Mr. Crandall arose from his seat behind his desk at the front of the classroom and walked towards the door.  Mr. Crandall was not an intimidating man at all.  He was quite short for a man, just barely over five feet tall and was quite chubby.  A while back he tried to grow a goatee but shaved it after the kids began to call him a walking potato with facial hair.   Now the only hair on his head is at his sides, around where his ears are.  The top of his head shines in the light because of the baldness.

When Mr. Crandall got to the door he stood there for a while and whispered back and forth with the girl.  The entire class was sitting in anticipation of what would  happen next.  Mr. Crandall wasn't fond of newcomers.  The last new student that we had in the middle of the semester was sent home crying and ended up transferring schools the next day.  The last new student was a guy, but that should make no difference.

"Class listen up!"  Mr. Crandall shouted to his students to get their attention. "We have a new student and her name is Lucy.  I expect you all to treat her with the same respect that you treat any of your peers."  Everyone's jaw dropped.  Because of the fact that Lucy was a girl, Mr. Crandall didn't yell at her.  "Now take a seat over there,"  He said pointing to an empty chair.  "Right next to Jensen."

Lucy  began to walk towards the open seat next to me and I saw how beautiful she was.  She, not unlike most females, was shorter than I.  Her hair glowed a bright crimson in the dim light of the classroom.  Her brown eyes seemed to be luring me in.  Just before she sat next to me she let out a sigh.  I had to get to know this girl better.

"Lucy, right?" I asked.  She nodded and began to search through her textbooks to find the Biology text.  "Well I'm Derek just so you know."  Lucy looked up from her pile of books and smiled at me.

"Look, you don't want to get involved with me.  You'd be much better off just leaving me alone."    Lucy replied.  Her voice was incredibly soft and innocent.

"I'm just trying to lend a helpful hand.  You did just move here and it would help for you to at least know someone."

"I DON'T WANT YOUR HELP!"  Lucy screamed at me.  Every single person in the classroom looked towards Lucy.  No one would have expected a girl to yell at someone on her first day, especially when she yelled at someone for trying to help her.  I returned to taking notes on the structure of animal cells without saying anything to anyone.  Maybe she just had a bad morning.  The stress of a new school is probably just getting to her.

Ever so subtly, I looked towards Lucy's schedule to see what class she had next.   Her next class was advanced foods with Ms. Romano.  Fortunately I was also in advanced foods.  So I would have another chance to make an impression on her.  Until then I would just have to ride out the remaining twenty minutes of Biology class.
