Biology class seemed to last for an eternity.  The constant bore of Mr. Crandall was beginning to become a little too much for me, so I began to doze off.  Unfortunately my sleep was short lived because the pounding, irritating sound of the class change bell rung throughout the school.  It always seemed to be what awoke me from the tranquillity of my sleep and what cut all of my dreams short.

I got up from my seat and began to head towards room 208 for Advanced Foods.  I tried my best not to pay attention to Lucy, even though she was headed in the wrong direction.  After all, she did say that she didn't want my help.  I might as well give her what she wants.

Ms. Romano was one of the nicest teachers possible, which was great for a foods class.  She would allow us to make absolutely anything we wanted, as long as it wasn't too far-fetched.  One time I had proposed that we should make deep-fried pancakes as a joke.  But she had taken it literally and the next day we actually got to make some deep-fried pancakes.  You have not lived until you try deep-fried pancakes.

In Advanced Foods I was the good kid.  I would always get to class as soon as I possibly could and would go above and beyond expectations.  Foods was the one class in school that I actually looked forward to and I would certainly show it in my enthusiasm for everything that we cooked.

I sat down in my usual seat at one of the two tables in the Foods lab waiting for Ms. Romano to show up.  I was always in class before she was.  I watched as my fellow classmates began to pool in five minutes after the bell had rang, which was typical.  Not too many people my age wanted to be as prompt to appointments as I was.

The last of the swarm of people entered the classroom, but still no Ms. Romano or Lucy.  Neither of them had arrived yet.  Maybe they're speaking outside the classroom.  I got up from my usual seat and began to walk towards the door when the principal had entered.

"Settle down class, I have some very unfortunate news for you."  The principal exclaimed with his head held low.  "Your beloved teacher, Ms. Romano, was in an unfortunate car accident this morning and has been put into intensive care at the hospital.  For the time being, you will have a substitute.  You may come in now, Dr. Westman."

A tall woman entered the foods lab with Lucy at her side.   Dr. Westman was poised with such elegance, you could clearly see how sophisticated that she was.  Her hair was trimmed shorter to make her seem like a business woman, which had evidentially caused her to look even more high class.  She came in a plaid suit to foods class.  Clearly this woman had no clue what she was getting into.  I quickly sat back down to not draw any attention to myself.

Dr. Westman whispered a few words to Lucy before pointing to where she was supposed to sit, which was right next to me.  Lucy blatantly ignored the teacher's request and took a seat on the other side of the classroom.  I think that she may be a little bit angry with me.

"Good morrow students!  My name is Dr. Stephanie Lucile Westman, but you shall further address me as Dr. Westman.  I majored in psychology and minored in the culinary arts.  For the time being, I will be substituting for Ms. Romano.  I will be accepting absolutely no misbehaviour from anyone, especially from you Lucy."  Dr. Westman sternly stated while looking towards Lucy.  The two of them seemed to have a past.  Maybe they had known each other from a previous school.

"I'll leave you to your class Dr. Westman.  Good luck with them."  the principal said as he left the foods lab.  He didn't have much faith in any of the substitute teachers that had to teach my class.  We would butcher any of the substitutes  we had.  So far, every single one of them has left in tears from how badly we ridicule them.  After all, people resort to teaching when they are at the bottom of their profession, but when they can't teach they have to substitute.  Maybe this one would be different.  She does seem quite stern.

"For today's recipe we shall be preparing a linguini in a delectable white sauce.  Any group who fails to meet my expectation for this dish will fail on my report for Ms. Romano.  This recipe will determine what grade I give you before Ms. Romano gets back.  May the odds be ever in your favour, class."  Dr. Westman said with power in her voice.

We broke into our groups of five and separated into our appropriate kitchens to get ready to cook.  Lucy remained seated and didn't make an effort to join any kitchen whatsoever.  Dr. Westman walked towards her while maintaining a perfect, erect posture.  They talked back and forth for a while before Dr. Westman dragged Lucy in front of the class.

With Lucy at her side, Dr. Westman began to speak to the class.  "Because Lucy has chosen not to prepare the dish which I have instructed, she will be given a special assignment.  One of you may help her if you wish, but if no one volunteers then she will have to complete the assignment on her own."

I looked around the foods lab to see if anyone was going to volunteer to help Lucy.  Not a single person offered to help her with her special assignment.  Lucy did do it to herself, but Dr. Westman seemed to be very strict and by the book.  Lucy's assignment would not be easy alone.

Ever so slowly I stepped forward and called out to Dr. Westman.  "I'll help her.  But only if she admits that she could use my help."

When I looked towards Lucy to see if she would accept my offer I could see the rage beginning to build.  She began to grit her teeth together and clenched her fists as tight as she could.  Her face began to turn a deep, dark red from the anger that was coursing throughout her veins.  She was a time bomb, and waiting to see the end result could prove fatal.

"Fine!  I'll need your help!  But ya had better not expect me to be nice to you, asshole!"  Lucy screamed at me at the top of her lungs.  This was much louder and was filled with a lot more rage than when she had yelled at me in Biology class.  I figured that offering to help her would've begun to mend the broken ties between us.  Obviously, I am not good with women at all.

Dr. Westman grabbed Lucy fiercely by the arm.  She brought her hand up and wound up for a slap.  She brought her hand crashing down upon Lucy's beautiful face with a mighty blow.  The strike immediately caused Lucy to fall to her knees from the sheer pain of being slapped so hard by Dr. Westman.  Why would a teacher hit one of her students!?  This wasn't right at all.

"Listen up young lady!  You will do as I say, and you will treat your fellow classmates with the utmost respect, do you understand!?"  Dr. Westman yelled at Lucy.  These two obviously knew each other from somewhere else.  No one would treat someone that they had just met this way.  Well almost no one.  "I will be talking to your father about this after school and he will not be pleased."

Lucy got up and walked away from Dr. Westman.  She walked towards me while holding her face where a bruise was already starting to form.  Tears were forming in her eyes, which she was trying so very hard to hold back.  She was biting her lip to stop her from bursting out in tears.  If she cried she would have been viewed by everyone as weak, but Lucy was strong.  She was a fighter, one that could handle whatever was thrown at her.  She could not be stopped.

She paused immediately when she got directly in front of me.  As hard as she possibly could, she kicked me directly in the shin which was one of the worst places to be hit.  Lucy leaned in real close to me and whispered into my ear, "This is all your fault!  I hate you!"
