Chapter 1
*May 5th, 2010*
"Jason, stop!"
I jumped up and snatched my red snapback from my best friend. He laughed and waved goodbye, since we had reached my house. I entered the house and threw my stuff into the closet.
"Mom?"
No answer. That was weird. After we ran away from my abusive dad to start a new life here in New York, my mom always made it her top priority that she be here for me when I got back from school. The silence was unusual, and it made me a little on edge. I quietly walked into her bedroom, hoping she was just taking a nap. Right before I was about to enter I heard a muffled noise coming from the end of the hall, where my bedroom was. The first thought that came to mind was my dad found us. I ran towards my bedroom door, only to find out it was locked. I pulled back and ran into the door, breaking it open. The sight before me horrified me. There was a man, a fairly big buff man, and he was holding a gun up to my mother's head. My mom was blindfolded and had her arms and legs tied together. I fell to the ground in utter shock.
"MOM!" I yelled.
She tried to speak, but the man slapped her and told her to shut up.
"Listen little girl. Don't move and nobody gets hurt. All we want is a little money, OK?"
He spoke to me as if I was a little child.
"B-but we don't have any money! We're broke!"
The creepy guy smiled.
"Oh, I know you know! Ha, your mom is filthy rich!"
I had know idea what he was talking about. We had been struggling with money ever since we left my dad.
"Now little girl, I'll give you one more chance to tell me where the money is, or else..."
He trailed off, looking at my mother with a devious grin.
"I already told you, I don't..."
Before I could even finish my sentence he pulled the trigger and my mother, the only family I had left, was lying dead, right before my eyes.
