I was locked in my own mind. A vast field of black grass, white trees and black roses hanging on vines off the branches. My mind was a dark place, but a beautiful place all the same. I looked up for a sky but there was none, only an endless inky black. Maybe that was my sky. I saw a flock of black ravens fly past, and in the middle I spotted a gray bird and it was the only gray one but that's not what caught me attention. What really impacted me was the fact that this bird was headless. it just didn't have a head. it wasn't dead because it was still flying but it didn't have a head.

As I was watching it fly, waiting for it to drop any moment a voice spoke up behind me,"It's about damn time, do you know how long I've been waiting?" I turned around and gasped. There stood a girl about three inches taller than me. Her hair was very long it reached all the way to her knees and it was very curly and it was a fiery red it almost looked like it was on fire. Her hair reminded me of the girl from the movie Brave. Her eyes were black and so were her wings. Wait, her wings? What the hell? But that's where the differences ended. Everything else was the same, she even had the same birthmark on her arm that was shaped like a pair of wings.

"Who are you?" I asked curiously.

"I'm your angelic half." she answered in a smooth voice.

"What do you mean? are you like a dark angel?"I gestured to her black wings. She smirked, amused by my obvious ignorance.

"Ok let me explain Justin did tell you the story about the human and the angel king right?" I remembered the story and nodded.

"Ok. He was right, you are the child of king Cassius." I frowned.

"But that kind of stuff doesn't exist. Monsters don't exist."

"Yes they do. now let me explain." I quickly shut up. "Let me start by saying dark angels don't exist. Those creature that worship the devil are demons there's no such thing as a dark angel, ok?" I nodded signaling for her to continue. "But not all angels have black wings. In fact none of them do. Every angel is supposed to be innocent, not able to sin. They can't, they're angels, instruments of God. Anyways angels are innocent but humans are not. they steal, they lie, they sin. You are both of these. Since your an angel you get your wings like every other one out there. But since you have human blood in you which is filled with sin, it results the wings to turn black."

"Hold up how is the king my father when a) my father was with me all my life and b) king Cassius was taken away at age 12 of his daughter? Wouldn't I remember him?"

"That person wasn't your father. remember when your mom got sent to the asylum and like a day after your "father" disappeared?" I nodded. "That "father" of yours was a guardian angel your real dad sent."

"I still don't believe you." I told her bluntly.

"Tell me just one memory that you remember before the age of 12." She told me.

I couldn't. Then all the pieces started fitting together.

"The reason you still haven't gotten your wings is because since you didn't know you were half angel, your human side has been dominant this whole time. But now I'm going into business. Ok, now put your hand in mine an, when I say three we have to say 'we are one', ok?" I looked at her and nodded. I put my hands in her warm ones.

"Don't be scared sweetie, you'll still be in control but I'll be alongside with you. Think of it as a best friend that you can't lose no matter what." she smiled encouragingly and I smiled shakily back. She started counting and when she got to three we said in perfect unison "we are one." I watched in horror as she slumped to the ground, unconscious, and then everything went black.
