"Ok Lennon, you won fair and square, so you get to pick the tent you sleep in tonight" I said, impressed with the strength he had.
"YAY!" He yelled, jumping up and down in joy "I pick tent 14." He knew his answer beforehand.
Tent 14.....TENT 14!! Uh-oh, my tent was tent 14!! Why did he choose MY tent. "Oh, ok tent 14 is...uh...is my tent...so you will have to choose another." I said trying to mask the panic in my voice.
"No, you said ANY tent, I choose tent 14." He stated, probably knowing I'd reject. His arms were crossed at his chest, he wasn't going to give up until he got my tent.
"Fine, you will be in my tent tonight and I will be sleeping under the stars." And just my luck, at that very moment, a bolt of lightning ripped through the grey sky. A large scream of thunder stalking close behind, then it began pouring, the clouds had turned a dark color and looked angry.
"I guess you'll be sleeping next to me sir" Lennon looked up at me smiling.
"Yeah I guess so" I looked down at him, frustrated at this point. I assigned jobs to each trainee, some pulling the carts back, others putting a cover over the fire wood, so it wouldn't get wet.
Everyone hustled around camp yelling to each other for help, interrupted every once in a while for a clap of thunder. The rain got heavy and the clouds got angrier.
It took about 20 minutes for all of the work to be done. The men worked fast when dinner depended on it.
We ate under a small make-shift roof that kept the rain away from the fire. The sky was pitch black, raindrops falling from the darkness. The fire putting an orange glow on our faces, just enough to see our plates of boiled potatoes and a hunk of meat.
After dinner we all retreated to our tents. Lennon got all of his things and brought them into my tent. "Hey" I looked up at him from my book.
"Hey" he put his stuff neatly in the corner. "What book are you reading?" He walked up to my sleeping mat, where I was laying.
"Moby Dick" I looked back down at my book.
"Ooh, a classic" he looked impressed.
"What?" I glared up at him.
"I don't know, I just don't see many girls who read like you do" raising his eyebrows.
"SHHHHH, DON'T SAY IT SO LOUD!" Press my index finger against my lips.
" yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever, no one will hear us." He rolled his crystal blue eyes. "Anyway, why aren't you in your pajamas?".
"Because I do that once everyone is asleep, so I don't risk a solider coming in unannounced, like you did." I glanced down at my current attire "I'll change in a little while".
"Ok, I guess that makes sense" he sat down beside to me, criss-cross-Apple-sauce. He looked ridiculous, because of his tiny body and the way he sat, made him look like a child.
I stood up and walked to the door, the rain had calmed slightly. I looked around the camp, checking to se if there were any more men awake. "I think I could change now actually".
I walked to the back of the tent where I had a sheet hung up, secluding a small corner for me to change. I pull off my helmet, hair falling onto my shoulders softly. My pointed ears parting it. I take off my armor and chest wrap, replacing it with a big shirt and pants that were baggy enough to clothe three people.
I walk out of the privacy corner and look down at Lennon. He was staring up at me in awe.
"Woah" his jaw dropped
"What?" I looked back at him, slightly offended at his reaction.
"You..you look...good...really good" he closed his mouth and stretched. He yawned loudly "ugh I'm tired, I think it's time for bed".
"Yeah I agree".
