Let Her Go

"Run. Run. Keep running and don't look back. Don't look at the venom in his eyes, or his heavy breathing. Just run." Her brain screamed, it pleaded and begged for her to listen. And so she did. As long, and as much as she could. But her heart... "Stop. Stop running. You know you were wrong this time, and that wasn't venom in his stormy grey orbs. It was pain. You know it." Hanji slowed. Her usually cheery face was flushed and pale, her eyes filling with tears that she fought desperately to hold back. "No..." She whispered. Her legs shook, feeling weak under her. A vigorous feeling of remorse, doubt, and resentment enveloping her. Any and every impression of common sense, fleeing her being in a distressed trepidation.

She wanted to scream, kick, and punch the air. She wanted to turn back and run into Levi's arms, to embrace him and tell him she was sorry. So terribly sorry. But she didn't. Hanji remained on the ground, her head and her heart arguing profusely. The agony she had just caused the love of her life, resided with her. It tore her apart, and broke her down. But she still didn't turn back.

Yet, there Levi stood. The short ravenette, not having moved from his spot by the door of his office, had once again become adept to the greatest perception of emotional torture. His cheek, still stinging from the red and burning hand print left behind by his one love. Her words, still echoing within the caverns of his mind, "I hate you! Just die already!" His fists clenched at his sides, but then unraveled once more. He took a step forward, and closed his door. Levi's heart hurt horribly, as soon as he thought that happiness was in his grasp it was torn away.

So it was at this moment he made a decision. A hard one at that. The very thought of doing such a heart twisting act, left him breathless and weak. It hurt, it pained him deeply and left his soul in a deep whirlpool of internal self-destruction. He closed his eyes, and when he opened them... He let her go.
