Chapter 5

After receiving several x-rays of different angles of my face it turns out my nose is slightly fractured and if I ever get a bloody nose it will bleed a heck of a lot. Dr.Maybourne said i would get the cast type thing for my face because I'm highly engaged in sports. She said I'd only have to wear it for about three weeks to a month depending on how good the healing process is.

My mother after talking to Dr.Maybourne on the phone, was at the hospital in twenty minutes and arrived sometime after I told Danny she should be cautious of the Lakeview cheerleaders.

My moms reaction to the whole situation was the best. As soon as she walked through the door she looked at me sitting on the big patients bed thing  and said and I quote "Oh my god Cori, you're going to look absolutely hilarious in that nose thing that you're gunna have to get!" and laughed for a solid five minutes. I'm guessing she was picturing me in the nose cover that will most likely take up a good amount of my face.

When the time came to leave the hospital, I walked out with the nose brace, as Dr.Maybourne like to call it, on my face and a bag of ice and some pain killers for the many practices I will have to go through with my broken facial features.

We had to drive Danny home since Charlie left. Mom, Danny, and I all got in my mothers Ford Escape. Since I had yet to know Danny's address I asked the obvious.  Her reply had my mom and I shocked.

"I live in the Northern Heights neighbor complex on Shill Road in the white house with the red door. Charlie's car will probably be in the driveway." she said not know how great what she just said was.

Me and my mom looked at each other pretty darn excited. Then, I looked at Danny through the rear view mirror and gave her a big 'ol smile.

She looked at me funny then said "What?"

I turned around in my seat and laughed then  said to her loudly and still excited "We live in the same neighborhood!! We live just a couple streets away!"

The look of realization came upon her face and she smiled bigger than me, if that was even possible, and started to clap her hands together and bounce up and down in her seat like a little kid. It was a sight to see really.

The whole ride from then to her house was us going back and forth happily exchanging sleepover ideas, future after school get together, and us deciding who car we were going to take to school and practice during the year. Once we arrived at Danny's house like she said Charlie's car was in the driveway so it was easy for me to pick out which house was which because majority of the one of the street were white and it was getting kind of dark so you couldn't see the doors well.

Danny got out of the car with a final fair well and mom pulled out of the driveway. Then I realized something.

"Oh crap."

"What?" my mom said looking away from the road to look at me for a quick second then back to the road.

"I just remembered that I left my car at the gym." I replied kind of sad because now I'm car less until tomorrow night.

Mom looked at me again and smiled. "Well, at least you have a cool new friend in close distance that I think wouldn't mind driving a few more seconds to pick you up!"

My mood automatically lifted. "Oh yeah! I must've forgotten."

"Really Cori? How could you have forgotten? You and Danny were just talking about this." she said pulling into the driveway and turning off the car and pulling the keys out of the ignition.

I gave her a look and got out the car. "I don't know mom? Doing these sports, you get hit in the head a lot. For all we know I got have gotten short term memory loss!"

She was unlocking the front door when she looked at me and scoffed.

I laughed following behind her. When I shut the door Peter, my thirteen year old brother, came running down the stairs with our collie, Maya, trailing behind him.

Like mom, he looked at me and laughed as soon as he saw me and said "What happened to you?"

"The same thing that'll happen to you if you laugh at my poor nose" I came back. At the last part I  looked  at my nose making me crossed eyed.

Peter just laughed again.

"Oh, you think this is funny my dear brother?"

He stopped laughing and ran back up the stairs with Maya knowing that I was true to my word.

Following the slam of a door was my mothers voice in the kitchen telling me to leave the poor boy alone.

I just laughed and went room.

Oh what a day.
