IX. TELL ME IN SILENCE
SIEG’s POV
The moment Louise and I entered, she practically made a run to a corner, from the threshold of the cafeteria, where a man came into view. Well, not actually, since his hands were slightly covering his face. Aside from that, there was also this girl who was, I think, asking him something.
Wait. Did I just miss something? Is Louise trying to meddle w—
“Uhm, I believe this seat is taken.” Louise stated a bit timidly to the girl.
The girl then walked away, and I think I caught her glaring at Louise as she did so. What was that about?
Oh, and don’t tell me the guy is her..
“Hey Leo, sorry I’m a bit err—late.”
Best friend.
R-really now?
The very second he lifted his face, I became aware of his gaze lingering on Louise’s small hand on my arm, which made me pull away momentarily, like her hand was something that burnt my skin. I was hoping she didn’t take offense in my sudden reaction. And by chance, she seemed more occupied acknowledging the guy in front of her.
That’s a relief then.
Oh.
To think that it’s Mr. Ice-Cold-Hearted-and-Super-Arrogant Leo. Everyone knows he’s the school girls’ obsession and I would never have thought that Louise is his best friend.
Seriously, man. I really thought it was a girl.
Ugh. Fine.
Expect the unexpected.
I’ve learned the damn lesson.
“Oh by the way, I’d like you to meet my new friend and current seatmate. Leo, this is Sieg. Sieg, this is Leo, my best friend.” She pointed on his and my direction, obviously making introductions.
I don’t like the feeling that I’m being looked at like I’m someone really dubious or something that would be perfect for dissecting. If the way he’s looking at me could kill, I’d be clinging to the last string of my life now. What the hell.
Of course,
ONE THING I REALIZED: Her best friend doesn’t like me.
And this is going to be a long, long lunch break.
It felt peculiar being the object of his intensity 99% gaze.
I mean, does he really need to do that?
“Sooooo, aren’t you going to say something?” Louise finally broke the irritating silence, accompanied by her best friend’s not-so-normal stare anymore.
It took a moment before he finished scrutinizing me and well, he acted as if he did not hear Louise.
Oh, I know.
He’s the anti-social type. Heh.
But knowing the affable guy that I am, I decided to initiate the greetings.
“It’s nice meeting you, uhm, Leo. My name’s Sieg. Hope we can be good friends!”
I reached out my right hand for him to shake.
I clearly doubted the fact that he’ll accept it though, but I still took the risk. I wanted to be friends and it’s not like I’ve done something to make him feel annoyed, right? So, I just kept smiling and at the same time, waiting.
