“This is a mission of great importance to us, do you understand Cassiopeia?” Her father spoke in a gruff tone of voice.
Cass flipped her long black hair over her shoulder as she smirked, “Of course father, they are simply Freljord barbarians, I’ll simply pick one, convince him of my love then hurry home with the tactical information you-“
The door to the grand hall swung open and in walked Cassiopeia’s sister. Katarina entered with her head held high and a devilish smile on her face. She stole all their fathers attention with her blood lust and her impressive skills in battle.
Cass felt the ping of jealousy in her heart, she would not fail this task and thanks to her she would be able to move the war forward not her sister. Only then would her father truly accept her. After that she wasted no time, she stormed out of the room, stomping her feet all the way to her bedroom where she packed for her journey.
She adopted a disguise to fit in with the Freljord barbarians and quickly became accepted into their tribe as one of their own. She picked out a young man who was very close to their king. He was sure to have the information she desired.
Men were so easily captivated by her beauty she normally had no problem getting close to them but this man was different. He never looked her way as she talked around the village with little to no clothing on, or tried to speak with her alone. In fact he took no notice to her at all.
One day as the other women in the village worked on cleaning the clothing, Cass wondered off to find this man. “Why do you show no interest in me? Am I not beautiful? Is there something wrong with me?!” She demanded, growing more annoyed by the minute.
She could see his cheeks begin to flush, “You are by far the most beautiful woman I have ever met, but…” He sighed, “You are not as beautiful on the inside, I see how you shun away from the children and the other women. You don’t help with chores and you don’t dance with us around the fires. Have you no compassion? No heart?”
Cass thought for a moment, “Maybe… you could help me find it?” She asked in a soft voice.
From that moment on the two became inseparable and without realizing it she was falling in love. Never before had she met a man that looked into her eyes and saw more than how she looked. She felt herself sharing things with him that she would never share, telling him of her jealousy of her sister and resentment towards her father.
Deep in her heart she could never truly tell him of her true mission there. As time passed she helped out around the village more and even helped them in battle once. For a time she almost thought she could stay, her and the man would marry and perhaps even raise a family.
The dreaming came to an end when a bird arrived with a message. Tears grew in her eyes as she read,
To my daughter Cassiopiea,
You are becoming an embarrassment to our family. Why is this taking so long? You have sent no word of your return and we are all growing restless waiting. I pray that you are truly dead and not just sitting about making a fool of me. I have assured our armies will be moving soon but without this information we will be at a disadvantage. I knew I should have sent Katarina on this mission; clearly you are of no value to me if you cannot do this simple task. Don’t disappoint me Cass!
Your Father
After reading the letter she knew this adventure was over. She quickly found the man she had mistakenly fallen in love with and like many times she before she acted as if she were worried for him, not wanting for him to be harmed in the war.
“You have to tell me what is the army planning to do against Noxus?” She asked in a soft innocent tone.
He shook his head and smiled, “I can’t leak that information my love, not even to you,”
Cass began to pout, “I can’t believe you don’t trust me…”
She watched his face as he instantly grew nervous, “Of course I trust you!”
“Then why won’t you just tell me!”
The man thought for a moment as Cass did her best to reframe from smirking. She knew she had him in the bag. Quickly the man pulled out his sword and handed it to her, “This sword has been a part of my family for many, many years, some believe it has magical properties, I believe this sword has saved my life on countless occasions. Cass, will you swear on my sword to never tell anyone of this information?”
Cass held the sword in her hand and looked at it. It didn’t look magical at all, in fact it looked like a normal sword. She smiled anyways and with a soft voice she spoke, “I swear on this magical blade, I won’t tell a single soul of Freljord’s plans for the war,”
After that the man told her everything, when they would be at their weakest, what their plan of attack and defence was. Everything that Noxus would need to destroy them was in her grasp. After their meeting she wasted no time running from the village and making the trip back home to Noxus.
She entered the grand hall where all of the generals had gathered to hear her information. Her father looked at her with proud eyes as she told them all of the information in detail. The moment she was done she felt sick.
Her father sent her to her room, worried for her health. “Surely you are tired after the journey, please rest until you are better my dear, you have made me very proud!”
As she made her way down the hall she stopped around the corner from a group of servants and overheard them speaking of her.
“That woman is a snake if you ask me! Using men to get the information she wants! In my day we simply cut down everyone in our path, not seduced them for information!” a woman’s voice spoke.
This enraged Cass as she thought about how she had broken her promise and betrayed the only man she had ever loved. She wondered if he would die in the war. Before she could finish her train of thought the sickness grew worse.
A wave of revulsion waved over her and many words floated into her head. “You are a snake!” “What kind of a person uses people’s emotions like that?!” and many other insults. Pain overtook her and she screamed in agony.
When it was over all she could hear was, “Now you really are as ugly on the outside as you were on the inside,”
Cass looked up to see the group of servants standing before her in horror. One of them screamed as they looked upon her. Cass hissed before lunging at them and ripping them all to shreds. When she finished she laid on the ground panting as tears rolled from her face and she looked down at her body.
She knew that no one would think of her as a ravishing jewel or an innocent flower any longer, instead she was the Serpent’s Embrace.
