This was a job I was certainly illequipped to handle. I was hired as the nanny for the Gray Warlock andShadow Witch's child. Of course it was a great honor, I was veryjoyful to be working for such a respectful couple. They wereactivists, seekers of peace and both extremely busy. They hired me tolook after their darling bundle of joy; Annie.

It was to be expected that she wouldbe skilled in the arcane arts, her parents were practically legends.Of course, I just wasn't expecting her to be skilled so quickly. Itwas hard to keep up with spontaneous combustion of objects the momentI looked away but eventually I learned to deal with her "gifts".I knew it just meant she was going to grow up to be an amazing witch.

She certainly didn't act like a babyat all. She learned too quickly, speaking in almost full sentences byher first birthday. People often threw around the words "childprodigy" but it was beyond anything I'd ever seen before. I knewfrom the very beginning this was no ordinary child.

It wasn't until her second birthdaythat I realized I was in over my head. Neither of her parents wereable to come and visit. They didn't forget about their perfect littlegirl however, they sent a small stuffed bear as a birthday present. It was a nice gesture and Annie instantly connected with the toy.

She was still too young to understandwhy her parents weren't there, so I acted as if it were just anotherday and took her for a little walk. I took her around the outskirtsof the town. Often people would recognize us and stop me, askingseveral questions about the girl's parents. It was too much of ahassle so I took the more secluded rout, not realizing the danger.

I had no idea how unsafe it was totake her to the edge of the town, as we walked a figure emerged fromthe distance. It quickly drew closer, so fast we didn't have thechance to run away. As it approached I realized it was a large bear.It flew towards us with unnatural speed. Flames danced around it'sfur like a deadly aura and it's teeth were razor sharp and ready torip us apart.

I panicked throwing myself in front ofAnnie, ready to give my life to protect her. As I braced myself formy death, the shadow bear stopped right in front of me. It's glowingred eyes peered at me, still evil and sinister. The bear was snarlingas it stood there not moving.

My heart was racing. The creature hadstopped for some unknown reason. It was clearly still angry, andviscous but appeared unable to attack. I didn't know how to react, ifwe ran would it follow? I couldn't fight the creature off, I was asimple nanny. I was at a complete loss.

Then I could hear the soft humming ofa little girl. I turned to see Annie swinging her bear back andforth, eyeing the monster in front of us. She wore the most devilishgrin I'd ever seen on a child. It was that moment that I realized Iwas more fearful of the little girl that stood in front of me, thenthe burning shadow bear.

When she finished her little song thebear roared and collapsed as if it were dead. I watched in horror asthe bear corpse vanished. The eyes of her new teddy began to glow redfor a brief moment, before returning to their normal color.

Annie then started to skip around, throwing the bear in the air and catching it again. Her soft voicesinging an eerie tune. I stood there, frozen in fear and amazement. She must have realized I was just standing there because she suddenlyturned around and looked at me with her big innocent eyes, just likenone of this had happened.

Then she smiled, "You wanna playtoo? It'll be fun!"
