I could hear the roaring of the helicopter as it lifted off the ground, blowing dirt into my eyes. I crawled across the rice paddy with my squadrons, the hot sun beaming down on us. I looked to my right and saw my friend struggling along, sweat poured down our faces, the humid air clinging to my skin. Smoke filled my nose, burning my nostrils. I felt like my stomach could bring back the contents of my breakfast. The sound of gunshots surrounded me, and I could hear loud booms from bombs blaring off in the distance. Fear rushed through my veins as we all desperately crawled to the cover of the trees.
A bomb dropped out of the air to my left, shaking the ground causing a loud ringing in my ears. My friends were left laying on the ground, their bodies lifeless. Blood stained the ground. I forced myself to move forward as salty tears blurred my vision. I could hear the agonizing cries and moans of troops who were still alive, but they were past saving. When we made it inside the dense and lush forest, we could hear gunshots closing in. We all crouched down, carrying our guns in our trembling hands. As I neared where most of the action was, I passed dead bodies. Some of them my own friends, some of them enemies. Branches lashed at my face, ripping open my skin. Small scratches appeared on my face, causing blood to trickle down my skin.
Suddenly, everything around me went upside down. My ears were ringing, my head pounding. I was laying on the ground, an agonizing pain in my chest. Then my vision went black and my mind went blank.
