It was still dark out when my eyes snapped open. What woke me I thought, alert. There was a knock at the door. "Skye," a soft voice called out to me. My eyes grew wide, I didn't recognize the deep eerie voice. I quickly stood up.
"Who's there?" I asked, keeping my voice firm and masking the fear that was overcoming me. The door handle turned and the door started to creak open. I desperately looked around for a hiding place or a weapon. My eyes landed on a knife on the night stand. I grabbed it quickly just as a tall dark figure walked into the room.
"Hello, Skye." It said evily.
"Who or what the hell are you?" I swallowed down my fear. I will not be weak I growled at myself. I held out the knife, and my hand shook.
"Why I'm Death of course. You should of died that day you almost drowned, but little 'Mr. Perfect' had to save you." His voice was dripping with anger and darkness. "I'm here to seal your death. You're coming with me." He started walking towards me. I drew the knife at him.
"I'm not going anywhere with you!" I yelled. "Step toward me and you'll regret it."
He laughed wickedly. "You can't hurt Death." He lunged at me, becoming bigger. The darkness surrounded me, sucking me into his underworld of hell. I screamed but it was muffled by Death's cloud. My lungs burned as if I was drowning
I awake, shooting up out of bed, going for the knife. I was wet with sweat and my heart was beating uncontrollably. I look around the room, but sunlight flooded into it. I let out a breath trying to calm myself. I realized I wasn't in my room and then I remembered last night. "Curse that damn movie." I muttered. "It was just a dream." I glanced at the bed. The covers were wadded up on the floor. "Wow." I muttered. For future reference: Do NOT watch horror movies.
I heard movement in the hallway. Garret must be awake. I opened the door and stepped out, Garret turned around and froze. "Skye, are you okay? You're soaked."
"Yea, I'm fine." I muttered, trying to hide my annoyance. He's the one that picked that movie. "I- uh had a nightmare lastnight."
His gaze softened, "I'm sorry." He replied. "If I had known it would have scared yo-"
"I'm not scared of a movie." I interrupted a little too rough. I hated feeling weak in front of people. When I was younger and learning how to hunt, I met men who ridiculed me. They said that I was girl and couldn't hunt as good as men could. Man, how bad I wanted to rip out their throats. Yea, I know that sounds harsh, but men have got to learn that women are just as strong and talented as men. This subject was definitely my biggest pet peeve.
Garret threw up his arms, "Okay I'm sorry. You weren't scared just... concerned." I cocked my head to the side. Welp that's better than scared, I thought gruffly. "Hey, look i'm also sorry about last night. I rushed things because.. well.. I haven't had much luck with girlfriends. I've always been too busy with hunting and making a living..." He trailed off when he saw me smiling and chuckling.
"You sound just like me. I always told myself that if I had to choose between a boyfriend and hunting that hunting was the winner." I closed the space between us. "I want to hunt with you and spend more time getting to know you before I... say those words." He was smiling now and he took my hands in his and grazed my fingers with his thumbs.
"Well I guess we better get to it then." He said softly then a grin broke out on his face. "How about we go on a hike today?" His green eyes glowed with envy and excitement. Let me just say it was contagious. I grinned and was almost bouncing up and down at the thought.
"Yes! That sounds perfect!" He laughed at my reaction and I laughed with him. "Come on lets get ready." I said running my hand through my hair. As I turned to go to the guest room, Garret grabbed my wrist and swung me back around. His lips crashed into mine and I felt as if I was the luckiest girl in the world. A warm feeling spread through out my body causing me to shiver. I brought my hands to his chest as he claimed my lips, then I slowly pushed him away. "Come on sweet heart daylights awastin." I said looking up into his eyes. I could very well love this man. He chuckled and nodded, before walking into his room.
I walked into the guest room, jumped over the wadded up covers, and plopped down onto the bed. I buried my face into the pillow and sighed. What was I doing? Didn't I have a life with hunting alone? I meet one guy who hunts too and I'm head over heels in love with him. Ugh! Life can be so complicated sometimes. I have to give him a chance though, I mean, the worst that can happen is that he breaks up with me or he is a physco killer. I could totally manage those. Obviously, he wasn't a physco killer, but hey anything is possible. I dragged myself out of the bed and went to the dresser to get some clothes- wait a minute I didn't have any clothes other than that dress.
Great now i'm gonna have to ask him for more of his clothes. I walked into the hall and to his door. I knocked gently, but there was no response. I heard a rushing noice. Huh he must be taking a shower. I turned the handle and swung the door open. His bathroom door was open and I did not want to be in here when he came out. I was about to turn around to go back to the hallway when Garret walked out of the bathroom with just a towel hanging around his waist. His 8 pack glittered with water and his hair was ruffled by drying it with the towel. His lips were lifted into a smile as I looked over his extra super gorgeous body... I gasped realizing that I was staring. "Oh-I-I'm sorry I needed some clothes. I'll come back." I said quickly and I turned on my heel and quickly walked out. I closed his door in the process then leaned my back up against the wall across from his door.
I brought my hand to my head. Holy crap,Skye. What in the world were you doing? You were staring at his half naked body that what you were doing. What is he thinking right now? He was smiling so he wasn't ashamed or embaressed, but I sure as hell was.
The sound of the door opening ripped me from my thoughts. "I'm sorry." I said again looking at him. His hair was still ruffled, and he was wearing jeans and a camouflage t-shirt. He held some clothes in his arms.
"It's okay, Skye." He laughed softly. "You have nothing to be embarrassed about." He held out his arms to me. "Here are some clothes. Just a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Might be alittle big for you, but its better than wearing a dress in the woods." He said with a grin and a wink.
"Agreed." I muttered, taking the clothes and smiling slightly.
"I'll make us some breakfast while you get ready." I nodded then I walked into the bathroom. I hopped into the shower. I didn't have shampoo to wash my hair so I just used water and combed my fingers through. After I finished, I slipped into the clothes. The jeans threatened to fall down. I'll need to get a belt from him, I thought. The t-shirt was big, but not like a dress. Good enough. I looked into the mirror. Geez Skye your hair's a mess. I found a brush in one of the sink drawers and I ran it through my long hair. Then, I braided my hair down my back. I smiled into the mirror. Time to really get to know Garret, I thought happily.
