~~~~Two Days Later~~~~
The last couple of days were really awkward since the kiss. I couldn't get his lips off of my mind and now he seemed more nervous than ever around me. I debated on whether or not to kiss him as a surprise. Why didn't I kiss him back? Now when I think back, I think of all the things I should've done. First, I should've kissed him back then, I should've said something nice like, 'you're amazing' or 'don't leave me'. Why did I have to be the most unromantic girl ever? We'll its in the past, guess I'll have to work on the future.
Garret laid most of his hunting gear on the bed, I stood out of the way, gazing at the equipment. "Wow you have some nice stuff," I said quietly, mostly to myself.
He smiled, "Thanks, you can use whatever you can find." I smiled back. "Oh I almost forgot." With that he quickly left the room then came back with camouflage clothes in his arms. "These are yours. I washed them for you." He handed them to me.
"Aw thanks. You're so sweet." I replied, taking the clothes from him. I winked at him with a grin. I couldn't help but notice that he was blushing. "Alrighty, well I'm gonna get dressed, I'll be right back." I walked to the bathroom and changed quickly. I need to go home and make sure nothing has happened I thought. Maybe Garret can give me a ride.
I finished and entered the bedroom. "Hey Garret, can you run me home before we go out to hunt?"
"Of course, darling. Let's hurry before daylight beats us."
I nod as I started to dab the camo paint on my face, then I slid on my hat, tucking my hair in. I noticed him watching and I smile. "You're so beautiful," he murmured. Heat goes to my cheeks as I look into his eyes.
"Um.. Thanks," My stomach felt like butterflies have taken flight. He leaned in, his perfect green eyes glowing. He was inches from my lips when he stopped. He smirked, teasing me. "We better hurry." I found myself resisting the urge to slap him as he backed away and put on his hunting mask.
~~~~~~~~
A half hour later we were sitting in my driveway in Garret's dark blue 89 Chevy. I opened the truck door and made my way up the sidewalk. Garret followed closely behind.
Because I lived in the middle of no where surrounded by woods, I never felt the need of locking my door. Plus, it saved some hunting time when you didn't have to spend a couple minutes locking the handle. I turn the doorknob and walk in. "Home sweet home." I murmur, turning on the lights. "Sorry for the mess, I spend my time hunting so I don't even think about cleaning."
He chuckled, looking around.
I walked through the house, everything seemed fine. I grabbed my 22 gauge shotgun. It wasn't my trusty 12 gauge, but it'll have to do. I swiped the shells and headed back to Garret. "Alright I'm all set." I said swinging the gun strap over my shoulder.
I followed him back to the truck, shutting my door behind me, and I hopped into the passenger side. "So are we going on my farm or yours?" I asked glancing at him. I set the gun down in the floorboard and the shells beside it.
He smiled. "My place of course. I heard this huge gobbler the day I found you."
"Yea I know, I tracked him and almost got a shot but, that stupid storm interrupted." I realized that was the first I admitted to be in on his land without permission.
"So that's why I heard them flying off." He said keeping his eyes on the road. "Guess we'll have to get him this time."
A wave of relief settled over me. He didn't seem to mind that I almost got his turkey.
The truck turned into his driveway and slowed to a stop. Garret cut it off and looked at me with a bright smile. "Time to get ourselves a turkey."
