The university classroom was filled with chattering and laughter as everyone conversed before the professor's arrival.
'It's obnoxious really... Everyone talking at the same time can cause such an uproar...'
Moments later an old man dressed in a vest and glasses steps through the doorway holding a briefcase at his side. As he sets it down on top of his desk, the chatter gradually dims to silence.
The young woman reclining at the back of the room wore an uninterested expression as she twirled a watermelon lollipop in her mouth.
'The same as every day..'
Her amber-like eyes scanned the room as the other students shuffled into their seats.
"Eh hem.. Miss Hideyoshi." The professor spoke up.
"Yes~?" she answered in an annoyed tone while closing her eyes.
"The president of student affairs wishes to see you in her office."
At this point, all eyes were pretty much focused on one person in the room. With an instant spark of her temper, Kohana spat her lollipop and stood up while slamming her hand on the desk.
"For what?!"
"That, is for you and her to discuss but while you are still in this classroom I'm going to have to ask you to calm down. Now please, excuse yourself." he replied sternly with a blank stare.
"...Tch." Flipping her waist long indigo hair, Kohana walked out of the room and left in silence.
"Alright. Class has now begun...Take out your books and put them on the floor for a pop quiz!" *faint grumbling*
Kohana's eyes were downcast as she pondered the reason for being summoned.
'What could it be for this time??' she thought. Her heeled boots echoed sophistication with every step as she continued down the hall.
Just before entering the office, a tall figure brisked by her shoulder and she turned to stare at his backside for a moment, blinking in confusion.
"What the.."
'Thanks for almost running into me, idiot..'
"Misses Kohana! Come here quickly please!" the President called loudly from her office. The woman refocused her attention and walked inside. "So.. What did you need to call me down here for this time??"
The heavy-set middle aged woman patted down the loose papers that sat on her desk before nervously speaking again. "It would seem, Misses Kohana-"
"Miss." Kohana corrected nonchalantly.
Slightly caught off guard, the president continued. "G-Gomenasai. (I'm sorry. [Formal]) Miss Kohana, it would seem that you've failed to pay the daily student parking fee once again, and your decal is expired... "
"Oh for the love of-" Kohana facepalmed.
"Also, I see that the current vehicle that you are commuting with is newly registered in our system but you have yet to pay the registration fee as well. We need a form of payment for both of these as soon as possible. Preferably by the end of today."
"You've got to be kidding me. First of all, I've already told you that I just got my car stolen. I just bought this car, and I already went through a ton of crap to get all of that settled! Just give me some time." she replied with slight desperation in her tone.
"Right. I understand how inconvenient this must be, but it is our policy Miss Kohana. Rules are put in place to be followed."
"Excuse me." A man interrupted as he stood by the doorway with a hood over his head. The fresh scent of outside rain permeated through the air from his clothing.
".. Yes? How can we help you sir?" Student Affairs President Mrs. Katana answered professionally as she tried to make out his identity beyond his shadowed features.
"Forgive me for interrupting, but I think I can be of help." he stated smoothly.
Mrs. Katana raised an eyebrow while Kohana did the same. The man had a muscular build that was slightly intimidating and a weighty presence about him, yet his voice was like velvet.
"I.. I'm sorry but we don't discuss individual student business with another student." the heavy woman answered politely.
"What do you mean you can help?" Kohana questioned defensively.
"I don't mean to cause any trouble, but I was wondering about the parking fee and registration. What would the total cost be?"
Mrs. Katana hesitated to answer before fiddling through her drawer for a calculator. "Would that be for yourself? Or.."
"For myself or for anyone for that matter." he answered.
The President took a breath, "Well, the parking fee which is 70, plus the registration- that's 887, then there's taxes and...."
Meanwhile, Kohana continued studying the man with her arms crossed.
"So the total would come to 1,118 yen! But if I recall correctly, I believe you've already paid those fees Mr. Kyuuseishu. This is your fifth day here at the university correct?"
"You speak truthfully," he replied while pulling out a check from his wallet and inscribing on it. "However, if this is necessary in this situation then here is another form of payment." he spoke while placing the check on the desk and walking out. "Have a good day, Mrs. Katana."
"B-But," she stuttered while staring at the check. Kohana's amber eyes widened in realization before she darted out the room after him.
"Hold it!" She exclaimed.
The man gave no reply.
"I said wait!" she demanded with fists at her sides. "Just who are you?!"
"I don't have time to chat, I have somewhere to be and I'd like to make it there on time." he continued nonchalantly.
"What? I don't care! Tell me why you just did that! I didn't need your help, and I don't even know you.." she finished with a softer tone.
"Does it matter? See you around... I'm sorry you're going through a troubling time." he replied with a hint of sentiment before disappearing.
Kohana stood staring in the distance for a while with a puzzled look on her features.
'Who is he?' ...
"Hmph." She blew loose hair from out of her face before making her way back to class. "Well I guess that settles that then.." she sighed before regaining her serious composure.
"Serves him right for almost running me over earlier anyway."
