November 2013

                Alex rushed home, he hurdled over fences and thrust himself over walls. Blake was back from his moms and Alex had a whole evening planned for them. They haven’t been together long, but no one could deny their love. Blake had accepted Alex for all the dark and dirty secrets of his past, just as Alex accepted Blake having spina bifida. Alex didn’t quite understand the specifics of the condition, but he didn’t care. He loves Blake, that’s enough for him. He burst through the door past his friends sitting at the kitchen table.

“Alex is home,” Darin said sipping his tea while reading an article on malaria.

“So it seems,” Penelope smiled reading her book.

                Alex snuck into the room seeing Blake on his laptop and his back was to Alex. Alex gently set his bag down, creeping over to Blake planting small kisses on his neck. Blake jumped a little from shock, but that instantly was replaced with happiness.

“Hello handsome,” Alex smiled trialing kisses along his lovers shoulder.

“Mmm, AJ,” Alex loved when Blake used his little nickname, “Wait, I need to talk to you about something.”

                Blake pulled forward, away from Alex’s lips. Despite him not wanting to, they had to talk about this. Alex took his jacket and boots off placing them at the foot of their bed. Blake was scared for Alex’s reaction. He didn’t want him to get the wrong idea.

“Okay what is it honey?” Alex sat across from Blake and held his hands.

“Okay well, something’s been on my mind for a while and no matter what remember I still love you,” Alex looked a little worried but just nodded in response, “AJ, you swore that you would never lie to me, and yet, you have on several different occasions. The first time being a few weeks ago when you told me you went to class and that you had to leave, but the week after you admitted that you didn’t go at all. Why would you lie about it? I would have understood that you were sick.” Alex bit the inside of his lip, “You told me you got out early but you just didn’t go. That upset me, you lead me to think you were working on your degree but you weren’t.

“Then you lied about quitting smoking. You didn’t even tell me about that, Darin told Jenna you were stressed and needed it. That’s fine, but why lie to me. You said you would tell me but you weren’t going to tell me you slipped up, your mam said something and that made you tell me,” Alex looked up at Blake seeing tears swell in his boyfriend’s eyes, “You should know by now that you can talk to me. I tell you all the time and you say ‘I will babe’ but you never do. And why the Hell would you be afraid of telling me you were talking to Betty? You have free will, you can talk to whoever you want. Just don’t hide it. It hurts me a lot, it makes it seem like you don’t trust me. And I don’t like being lied to… I love you Alex, I just want you to open up more.”

                Alex didn’t know what to say, what could he say? Blake was right! He was lying, and Blake didn’t deserve that. And at the moment, Alex felt like he didn’t deserve Blake. He’s the most accepting and wonderful person Alex knew, and Alex had been lying to this wonderful man. But he has to be honest…
