Part Two

The first half of the day became even more unlucky for me as the seconds ticked away.

The moment that I sat up from my chair in the class that I was late to, my friends immediately shot up from their seats and did their best to cover up the view to my butt. Apparently, the birthday curse was acting up again.

I had sat down on a piece of gum.

I let out a rather loud declaration of choice swear words, and I looked back only to see my friends slightly cringing at my unlucky fate. Prescious immediately snatched up Ron's sweater from his hands, handing it to me so that I could cover up my behind.

Great. Now I look like I have a blood stain on my butt.

We went ahead to attend our Theology class and I was both mad and bored for the whole hour and a half, and when the bell rang for dismissal, I was a little bit too enthusiastic in getting up from my seat.

I was huffing all the way to the gates of the school, trailing behind the rest of the barkada as Aimee, Prescious, and Ron chatted up a storm beside me. I wasn't really paying any attention to their daily fill of juicy chismis today, since my mind was too occupied with other stuff.

They were all headed out to eat lunch somewhere outside the school, while I was headed home to change into a fresh skirt. I had to hustle though, because I only had an hour and a half before our next class, where we would be taking a major examination.

I bid them goodbye as we reached the school gates, immediately hopping into a jeepney that would take me home. Surprisingly, the streets were taking it easy on me this time, and I arrived home at exactly 12:30 PM.

I made sure to take care of the gum on my soiled skirt first, changing into a new one in record time as I tried to prepare a quick lunch for myself. My mother wasn't home, so I had to feed myself first if I didn't want to go to school with an empty stomach.

By the time I was done with everything I needed to do at home, it was already one o'clock in the afternoon. My next class was in 30 minutes and I was going to be late yet again.

But, just like everything else that could've gone wrong today, that part of my day didn't work out for me as well.

Three hours later, I was still sitting in my house, bored to death as I waited for the rain to die down so that I could actually get to my 4:30 PM Income Taxation class on time.

The moment that I stepped out into the sidewalk to wait for a jeepney, the rain started pouring down on me by the bucket-load, and since I didn't like to carry an umbrella in my bag, I was utterly and thoroughly drenched. Feeling dejected as I stood there on the sidewalk and just reveled in my misery, a bright flash of lightning in the distance knocked some sense into me, and I started running for my house like the athlete that I never was.

Ultimately, I wasn't able to take my Advanced Accounting exam, and I knew I was toast.

Looks like I'm gonna have to talk to two of my Accounting teachers now.

At some point later, I changed into a new set of my school uniform after taking a hurried bath to avoid catching a fever, cringing at the amount of laundry I'd have to do just from all the changing I did today. My friends were texting me the whole time, asking me what was up and why I missed the exam. I told them about what happened, and they sympathized with me, saying that they'd try to help me talk to our teachers.

Eventually, I got to school 10 minutes before my 4:30 PM class. Surprisingly, the traffic was a little bit more bearable on the way there, and I was a bit suspicious about the way that life was taking it easy on me.
