The drive to the air port was silent. Brandy was driving. The windows were up and the heat was pounding on her feet to like a burning sensation. She wanted to turn it off but knew she would just be cold.
Elizabeth on the other hand was quite content with the temperature and was only thinking pessimistically about what could go wrong. She had the wrong time, she was going to the wrong air port, the plane might get caught up because of weather . . . she was nervous. The ride felt like 20 hours even though it e=was only 20 minutes. It was like they had nothing left to say. Brandy was thinking about Nick and started to feel bad about just leaving. Nick was nice just no one important or worth missing her best friend meet the love of her life. They started down a twisty road and finally Elizabeth attempted to start a conversation, “Are you ready for the plane ride?”
“Um. . . what is there to be ready for? A few hours stuck next to you? Just kidding.” Brandy really didn’t feel like talking she couldn’t stop thinking about Nick but knew that if she mentioned anything Elizabeth would explain for the thousandth time that bringing Nick would be stupid.
“What ever. I am starting to get. . . nervous like what if we don’t connect like you know. . .”
“Yeah I know. Just remember that you love John and it is going to be fun even just as friends.” Brandy smiled trying to cheer her up, “Besides we are going to Britain!” she laughed with a fake British accent.
“I hope I can pull off to be a local!” Elizabeth joked with one too. They finally arrived at the air port. Their flight left in 20 minutes. That gave them time to get there passes and get on the plane. They pulled their luggage around and looked around feeling very silly. They get their stuff together and raced to the plane just in time. They got on the plane and found two batty old men sleeping in them.
“Um. . . Excuse me um sir.” Elizabeth said in an innocent voice. The old men snored on. One of them was rather large. He was wearing a purple striped button up with khakis and had long ugly gray hair. The other man looked very mean and was bold. He had a bunch of freckles and huge wart right next to his eye. Both of them wore these horrible 1980’s glasses with the thick plastic brown frames.
“Dude! Wake up!” Brandy screamed after getting tired of being polite.
“Oh. Ah. . . Sorry Miss I didn’t see you there. “ He said nicely. “What is the problem?”
“Our ticket says that you are in our seats and we were wondering if there was a mix up.” Elizabeth said kindly.
The older man with no glasses on pulls out his ticket and a pair of reading glasses that looked almost the same as the other’s but with black frames, “My ticket says 2b.” He looks at the seat number he was in and feels very awkward, “Oh sorry young lady.” He sits up and starts to move when he sees the other old man sleeping, “Arty! Wake up old Man! Wake up I said you old koot!”
Arty looks up confused when he sees his friends urgent hand gestures to move. “Oh! You old fool! You brought us to the wrong seats! Stupid!”
“Who you callin’ stupid you came in first?!" The 2 men started to argue and walked to their appropriate seats.
Brandy and Elizabeth started to get settled into their seats. When they first sat down they could smell a mix a moth balls and cigarettes. “This is. . . interesting.” Brandy says as she takes a very sniff of air.
“Yes interesting it is. So interesting I am a little overwhelmed!” Elizabeth said. They both laughed and there was no awkward tension anymore, just the 2 of them trying to keep the awful smell out of their mind. An few minutes pass and it is finally time for takeoff.
