Luke's POV
11 am. I was staring up at the ceiling. I was just starting to get my head around the whole break up. As I'm thinking of our first kiss, my phone starts ringing. I ignore it; I wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone.
The phone rings a second time. Whoever was calling clearly wanted to get hold of me. I reluctantly sat up and grabbed the phone: I'd deleted Emma from my contacts but I recognised her digits straight away. I answered the phone quickly.
"Hey what's going on?" I said, trying to sound calm. I could hear crying and sniffling coming from the other side. "Emma? Are you ok?" She replied between gasps: "I need...could I...can I come round yours?" I was very confused, Emma had made it very clear she didn't want to be with me any more. "What? Um ok..." I mumbled "Do you need a lift?" I heard her sobbing quietly before she replied "yes please, I'm sorry." I told her everything was fine and that I was on my way.
I drove over and knocked at Emma's door. Within a few seconds she opened the door. She was wearing jogging bottoms, a baggy t-shirt and she hadn't done her hair or makeup. It wasn't like her to dress down, what was up?
We got in the car and we drove back to mine. After twenty minutes of awkward silence, Emma cleared her throat and said: "...It might break your heart, but I need to talk to you Luke." My heart jumped, I was so scared. "It's fine, go on" I was used to feeling sad anyway.
"I've been seeing someone..." Her voice was quiet. I nodded. I figured as much, although it saddened me to hear. "A girl..." She said and turned towards the window. "Oh..." I said, trying my best not to cry. "I understand" A small tear rolled down my cheek but I fought the urge to wail and cry. "It's been really difficult Luke, I stormed out of her house. I don't know what to do."
Every part of me wanted to tell her she belonged with me and I could fix everything, but I knew it wasn't true. She needed my help, as a friend: not a lover. "Come on," I said "I think somebody needs a Nandos takeaway and a game of zelda!" We both laughed and she smiled at me knowingly. This wasn't so bad, maybe we could still be friends?
