Dinner and.. Remembrance of the Job.

I stand in the doorway, smiling back at the girl I met out on the streets. She looks back at my daughter, poking her nose, giggling. Sure, she was a very cheerful girl, but maybe I shouldn’t have brought her home. But, it’s been two and a half years since my ex dumped Skye on me, leaving her all up to me. Plus, maybe she really needed a female figure in her life, and, it’s been over two years after all! I look up and down the girl; I guess she would do, it seems like Skye likes her, that’s all that matters.

“DeeDee, let’s have a tea party!” Skye tugged on the girl’s sleeve. So, her name’s DeeDee? She smiled down at her, shaking her head, then turning to face me.

“It’s dinner time soon, baby; once DeeDee starts making it.” I smirk down at the girl, she stands up and walks past me. “Just stay here, Skye, I’m sure that she’ll make dinner soon. Continue playing.”

I walk out after the girl, shutting my daughter’s bedroom door. I sit on the kitchen bench as she looks through the pantry, “So, DeeDee, is that your real name?”

She peeps her head out of the pantry to look at me, laughing. “Oh, no. My name’s Aldea.” I nod and smile at her; she’s got a fairly nice name.

“So, Al, how old are you?” I wait for her to continue searching the cupboard for food to cook.

“Nineteen.” She searches the fridge, grabbing out some rice. “Is Skye allergic to anything?” I shake my head, smiling. She nods and finds some cheese sauce in the pantry, cutting off a corner and putting it in the microwave. She turns to face me, “So, now it’s time for you to answer some of my questions.”

“Go ahead.” I smirk, “Ask away.”

She nods, “Alright, tell me. Name, age and the reason why I’m here.”

I smile, “Alright, my name’s Josh, I’m twenty, and you’re here because you made my little daughter cry. Also, I haven’t really had time for girls since my baby came here.” She looks a little upset, the beeping of the microwave scaring her. She turns around to grab the sauce out, about to open the microwave. I wrap my arms around her waist, bending my neck down, softly kissing her neck. She lets out a tiny gasp, her face slowly turning to look at me.

“J-Josh? What are you doing?” Aldea opens the microwave, taking the packet of warm cheese sauce out. She shakes me off her, walking to the bench and putting the sauce down, searching some cupboards and taking out three bowls. The brown-haired girl puts some rice in each bowl, pouring the cheese sauce over the top.

“Hey, Al, I’ll go get Skye.” I smirk, walking to her room. She watches me walk off as I laugh, “Hey, bubby, dinner’s ready, let’s go.” I hold out a hand as my little princess grabs it. We walk out to the kitchen and I pick her up, placing her on her seat at the four-seater dining table. I grab some cutlery out, secretly sneaking glances at Aldea. I set three forks and spoons on the table, grabbing the bowls once the girl’s finished stirring the cheese through them. She slightly frowns as I take them, but I grin at her. She tries to find some napkins, so I grab her waist and lift her up, taking her to the table. “Sit.”

She softly sighs, “Fine, Josh.” She sits to the left of Skye, as I sit to the right. I smile across the table at her, but she just focuses her attention to my daughter. “Hey, do you like it? I used to eat this when I was little.”

My black-haired baby girl nods, smiling. “It’s good!”

“I’m glad.” Aldea laughs happily, picking up her spoon and shovelling it down.

I try some of the cheesy rice, enjoying it. I quickly scoff it down, “Anymore, Al?”

She shakes her head, “No. Now, be a good boy and go to bed.” I stand up, grabbing my empty bowl and fork and spoon, placing them in the sink; I’ll do the dishes later, maybe. She continues to sit at the dining table, elegantly eating the food on her plate as Skye’s eating hers not so etiquettely. I smile, watching my daughter stuff her face full with a food she’s never eaten before; I’m guessing she likes it.

Aldea stands up, patting Skye’s head, “I’m just putting this in the kitchen sink, it’ll only take a few seconds.” She walks over, with her dirty dishes, placing them in the sink, not bothering to look at me, then she walks back and sits down, facing the child. I grab Skye’s dishes once she’s finished, putting them with the rest.

She got off her chair and walks over to me, tugging on my jeans leg, “Daddy, can DeeDee stay?” I look over at Aldea, biting my lip, thinking.

“Sure, but only if she agrees to it.” I smile down at my princess, watching her run off to ask the brown-haired girl. I walk to my room, flopping down on my bed, softly murmuring to myself, “This will be one long night... Skye had better sleep tonight.”

“I’ll make sure she does, Josh.” I turn around to see Aldea standing there, smiling, her arms crossed as Skye peeps from behind her legs. My child runs up to my bed, leaping at me. I catch her and begin to tickle her, her giggles fill the once quiet air. I feel somebody else jump on my bed and I see a mess of brown hair, covering the girl’s face, I laugh and she begins to tickle me.

I smirk, “I’m not ticklish, Al.”

“Damn.” I hear her mutter.

“Hey, hey. No bad words in my house, if Skye begins to say that, I’m blaming you.” I laugh, beginning to tickle Aldea instead. She begins to squeal, trying to hit me with my pillow.

“I’m so sorry, I need to go to my job, I just remembered, it starts at seven.” The girl began to freak out.

I laughed, “Al, calm down. Where do you work? Maybe I could drive you there?”

“I’ve got a babysitting job. I might have to call the guy back, to get the address.” She continued to stress out. I point to the phone, she nods and dials the number, at the same exact time my phone rings. I pick up my mobile and answer it, I hear Aldea’s voice.

“I forgot that I hired a babysitter for Skye.” I laugh into to the phone, she hangs up and looks at me.

She bites her lip, “Wait, so, I’m your babysitter?” I nod and begin to laugh.

I turn to Skye, “Al will be here often to play with you.” She grins happily, looking over at Aldea.  I throw a pillow at the brown-haired girl, and she throws it back; a pillow-fight starts.

We all begin to laugh and run around my room, feathers flying everywhere. My daughter looks up with her bright blue orbs, “It’s snowing feathers, daddy!”

I laugh and look into Aldea’s green eyes, “Of course it is, sweetie.” I say without removing my gaze from those hypnotizing eyes.

A rattle from my bedroom door alerts me, I turn to face a pissed off blonde girl, she glares at me, “I see you’ve moved on, Joshua...”
