Hi!  Hey!  Yo!  Aye!  Greetings earthlings!!

Hope everyone had an awesome Turkey day!!

Anyone go Black Friday shopping?!  I was out at 3:30 in the MORNING!!  It was epic!!

Now a few weeks ago I wrote the article about the reasons to get you an editor!  This week I’m posting about how YOU can be your own editor!!

Being your own editor can be easy if you know how!!

When you are your own editor you need to keep a level head while editing.  Here are my top three tips on how to edit:

1.      Grammar is number one!  You always need to do a spell check!  Do your spell checks after you write your chapter, it will be much easier for you the author to do.

2.      Check your paragraph spacing!!  Spacing has to be just right!

3.      After you finish writing your chapter reread and see what you can fix or add to your story!

I highly recommend editing your chapter after you finish writing it!  Then when you finish your book and go through doing final edits it will be less stressful!

Here are some “Do’s” and “Don’ts” while editing:

DON’T: When you’re tired and getting frustrated you need to walk away from it!  Otherwise your chapter will turn out sloppy!

DO: As I said before you need to keep a level calm head while editing, it will go by much faster if you do.

DON’T: Don’t add more to your chapter until you edit!  After you edit then you add more if you want to!

This is how editing a chapter goes:

1.      Reread.

2.      Check grammar.

3.      Edit paragraphs!

4.      (Optional) add more sentences!

You need to stick with that order of editing because it will make your life much easier!

If you are going to get your book published you will probably have to hire an editor, a lot of publishing companies require it.

If you are looking for a publishing company I highly recommend ‘Smashwords’.  I have not published one of my books yet but I would like to.  From what I have read it is easy to publish from ‘Smashwords’.  I will post the link to the website in comments!

Good luck to everyone who edits their own novels!  I currently am doing so too!

Also good luck to those who are entering the Watty Awards this year!!

Until next week!
